I can deal with people having different views than me, just being ok with people being hateful is a step beyond that though imo.

You're on a slippery slope when you have to qualify with not the racism, the other stuff laugh

Always makes me smile when posters here claim that they and opinions they agree with, are being cancelled.

PH is overwhelmingly right of centre and in the case of NP&E, drifts quite far right - voices are heard openly, despite that they may not align with those of advertisers and wider readers..

Compare that to posting that you agree with David Lammy on here, and it goes into meltdown.

I never think of myself as being cancelled when I do go on the record and support him, or similar. I just know I am posting in a forum that trends very strongly to the right and people object to my opinion.

Likewise, when people complain about PC, woke and being cancelled, it is probably a case of their opinions being heard outside of their bubble and discovering that the world does not necessarily align with their views.

People like Fox are a political Verruca Salt. He's white, male, privately educated, has money and he and those like him have been the dominant power and opinion for centuries. He's just not realised society is moving and changing and he's now being challenged for the first time in his life.

- Sometimes things are worth putting your head above the parapet for and he feels strongly enough to do so. His tweet was appalling, but I agree with his perspectives on Covid and woke culture. I’m glad someone is willing to risk their reputation and even have a go at politics to put the arguments forward.

- If you have enough money you are actually in the privileged position to stand up for those beliefs and try to change something.

I’m similar in a way. I was offered a well paid contract some time ago, but then I suspect it was pulled because of something I’d written online (an industry perspective, nothing political). Genuinely couldn’t care less because I stand by my beliefs and don’t need the money. I suspect that’s his mindset.
It's entirely fair that he tries his hand at politics. Thing is, politics is a popularity contest - of both the person and their ideas - and it always has been.

He's shown that he's far from intelligent in the way he operates and although he's selling, it appears that very few are buying. People like you might support his stance on a couple of items, salute his courage in standing up for what he believes ...... but actually vote for him? I suspect you wouldn't.

Wen you need six tweets to attempt to justify the first one, and it still sounds like complete bulls*it, I'd say it was probably better not to have bothered.

Yes. And it does look like he thinks that being accused of a crime and being guilty of it are the same thing.

I guess his lawyer was on the phone first thing judging by that attempted excuse.

I’d imagine with something like this

Lawrence, are you a fking moron!?

Eta: as much as he tries to remain relevant I have a hunch he’ll continue to fade away, along with his few somewhat challenged supporters.

“ 4 - This is why I have consistently rejected being lectured by professional footballers. They’re hypocrites: mega-rich babies who readily & ludicrously take the position of the oppressed, when all too often they have been the ones abusing their huge power for nefarious reasons”

The lack of self awareness is just staggering.

If you didn't know it to be true, you'd think it to be self-parodic to a Spinal Tap-esque all-the-way-to-11 degree. Sadly, the muppet actually believes what he's saying.

Nah, we shouldn't assume mental illness every time someone says something stupid. Some people are just stty and stupid.

OK - that's a fair point. Whilst I appreciate that you cant speak for Laurence Fox, what do you think that he's actually saying about Benjamin Mendy? Perhaps he is saying that footballers shouldn't preach about racism because one black footballer is a rapist? And before get banned, I'm not saying that statement is true, I'm just wondering what point Fox is making.

Must admit I did that as you do start to wonder if someone's having a public midlife crisis.

Thing is how do you distinguish between that and someone just being a nasty fker who's let the mask slip?

That's what he's claiming he was trying to say. And even if that is what he's saying I think it's a massive stretch to try an claim that this is really the way that the majority or even a large minority of footballers actually behave.

The total div actually linked it to racism himself by referencing kneeling in his tweet.

I would suggest it has taken him, his lawyer and his PR consultant all night to come up with this retrofitted bullst.

I had a look at his main twitter page - guy seems delusional to me.

But yes, the alternative is that he's just an over privileged, entitled, nasty piece of work.

Genuinely staggered that some on here are reading his ludicrous rantings and thinking, "yes - that's how I feel too"

I think he's saying that the heroes of the Premier League are anything but, and that you shouldn't trust what they say. Because, y'know, they're all like that. Nefarious. A good word, that: it's this sort of rhetoric that pushes middle-class, mostly white people - his target audience - to rail against undeserving minorities who, Fox believes, are receiving too much public support at his (and by extension, his supporters') expense.

Or maybe he's just a nasty, spite-filled, racist goon.

It’s been explained better than I could what he was saying and what he thinks he was saying, but my comment had nothing to do with that.

My comment was about the fact that Laurence Fox is extremely well off, moaning about being oppressed and is abusing his position to attack others. He is everything he is claiming footballers are. At least the majority of footballers have some experience of living a life without vast money, unlike Fox, who has never been outside his privileged bubble.

Fair enough. Certainly not trying to pick a fight with you. smile I just wish that LF would explain himself properly which I don't think he has actually done yet.
