Apparently Trump and the first lady have tested positive.

If they only suffer mild symptoms it might lessen the hysteria a tad.

If not what about the election that would have to be delayed.

An increase in progress towards herd immunity?
Old news. Not even Sweden are actively promoting that other than by future vaccination.
There are only so many people in this country. If the infection rate back in March/April was 200-250k per day, it doesn’t take long before you start to get through all the people here. Every day that thousands of cases are reported is another step closer to herd immunity. We don’t have an infinite number of people here!

Immunity doesn’t happen for all and also some immunity is gone in 3 months.

Why do you post this misleading rubbish?

There has been around 35 million PCR confirmed cases of covid around the world in the last 9 months. And in all that time, have many of those people have become reinfected? Almost zero.

And whilst IgG antibodies decline over time, this doesn't mean immunity is gone, as that isn't just how the long term aspects of your immune system protects you.

Well if that’s the case a vaccine won’t work either so we need to immediately drop all restrictions and go back to normal starting right now. Why don’t you ring Boris and tell him what you’ve found out? It will help everyone.

Think about the numbers you're relying on here for your argument, they dont help the argument.
35million have had it, out of 7 billion or so. So to have a confirmed case so far is rare. Maybe 6-8 percent in UK, with a higher level of testing than most of the world.
So if catching it once is so rare, catching it twice would be long odds, particulalrly anyone who had a tough time first time round with it may well have modified their behaviour to avoid it going forward.
The point it, reinfections HAVE occurred, so the immunity that we rely on for things like chicken pox, measels etc etc, ie immunity for pretty much everyone for pretty much life, cannot yet be relied on, and in fact, look extremely unlikely.

This will end up like we deal with Flu, only it will be far more serious a disease than flu. We will guess on the strain, issue vaccines to help people fight it if they get it, but large numbers will and some will have a bad time and die from it also. That's why they are working on vaccines, not to eradicate it, the opportunity to do that is long gone.

Yes

The best bet is that the immune response will be similar to the existing Coronaviruses. Decent protection for a few years and then declining over time.

Also, as mentioned, if it only last three months a vaccine would be fairly useless as well.

35 million cases have been detected by PCR. However, the number of infections are *massively* higher than that.

And many of the people who have become infected so far tend to live or work in roles which bring them into close contact with many people. So there is more than enough circulating virus around the world to see a pattern of reinfection, if indeed it was widespread. Which it isn't.

Question is, were they tested because they had symptoms, or were they tested as a matter of procedure then found to have it?

If the latter, it does bring back the point "Imagine a virus so deadly that you have to be tested to know that you have had it..."

I believe they were tested because an aide had tested positive, so the latter I think.

Well my thoughts and prayers are with them. Even if you don't like Trump, getting such an awful debilitating nasty dreadful illness that he didn't know he had must have been frightening.

I hope he regains his ability to walk up stairs and run marathons in good time.

Very much so. It definitely does highlight those who will simply defend the current government at every turn no matter what and exempt them from any criticism. Asshats as you said......

The asshats that are directly impacting all our lives as they simply cannot manage a little bit of personal responsibility for the common good.

Herd immunity - Go on I'm all for it - Tell us exactly how many more infections are needed then we can calculate how long and roughly how deaths and we can have it proposed to parliament. Until that plan is agreed you have no right to just carry out your own crackpot plans. So put up or shut up.

Idiots promoting students and others to break the law but in the next breath claiming the SNP MP is the spawn of the devil really do show that actually they just like to be contrary. She should be your new hero if you really believed what you spout.

History will show that this period of increased infections could so easily have been avoided along with the necessary but damaging interventions and those that promoted it are the cause. You've all put the country back three months minimum at a guess and you just refuse to accept responsibility for your actions.

So if the PCR numbers are massively higher than that as you say, so are the reinfections!

There's no Govt, scientific body or research institute on the planet yet that have said immunity / herd immunity will work. We are only a few months into this and it will last years and years. In UK ONS say about 6-8 percent have had it yet. No one can draw anything meaningful regarding the long term prospects for this from that level of data. You can guess, you can model, you can have an opinion, but everyone seems to think immunity if there is any will be relatively short lived. They may be wrong, but to assume long term immunity from what we can see so far, makes no sense.

No. The number of cases detected by PCR is broadly accurate. The number of infections is massively higher as most infections are never detected and never become 'cases'.

Given your number of proposed deaths is higher than if we had just flattened the curve then how does it feel being a killer?
This would be over now, you have put the country back years. How was breakfast this morning? Manage it without too much dribble?
