Welsh lockdown
Discussion
My dad, who lives in England, turned 80 in October and got his vaccine a week before Christmas. The 83 year old mother in law who is in Gwynedd hasn't heard a thing. Our suspicion is that in Wales they are concentrating on the south where the most cases are so it might be a while before it gets to Gwynedd.

No, they're concentrating on healthcare workers.saaby93 said:
Are Wales news items normally subtitled?

It's a growing trend with a lot of televised/online news articles. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-wales-55478751

The vaccination regime needs to be sensible.
1. NHS staff.
2. Nursing home staff.
3. Teachers.
4. Supermarket/food staff.
5. Infrastructure staff, logistics, fuel, water, electricity, ports, social services etc.
6. Then the elderly.
7. Then our children.
8. The rest of us.
Innoculating the elderly is the wrong way around. We need to be dealing with those that keep us well, fed, educated and warm. And then the economically active who are generally fit and well.
Or we could leave it to the experts to decide the priority order. 1. NHS staff.
2. Nursing home staff.
3. Teachers.
4. Supermarket/food staff.

This problem needs businessmen who understand logistics not amateurs that rely on statistics.

Of course everywhere has its problems but is that the best you can find? The first relates to a serial killer active 25 years ago and the second from 2019? Yes, North Wales clearly has its problems but I'll warrant that it's still a safer place to live than most other areas in the UK.

That’s not sensible at all, it’s ludicrous.1. NHS staff.

We are constantly being told that one of the biggest issues is overwhelming the healthcare system, therefore we should focus on those people who end up in hospital. For the most part it's not 20 year olds working in Tesco. The impact of the vaccines on transmission isn't currently known, so the best recipients are the old, vulnerable and those that care for the old, vulnerable and work in high risk settings as we don't have as many trained replacements for them if they become ill. Most people can operate a till, drive a delivery van. Most can't deliver a lesson in a school (not least because they won't have passed the relevant tests, safeguarding training etc).
That’s what I was pointing out. Give the “vaccine” to the giffers , vulnerable and their carers and let the rest of us crack on. Since we are going to be paying for it.Kent Border Kenny said:

I don't think we'll see much of an increase.
The people who are all for lockdown wouldn't have visited others over Xmas. Those who think lockdown is a bit extreme would have carried on as normal i.e visiting others as they usually do.
My Xmas was just like any other normal day. Visit family and friends as I'd usually do.
Except police stopped people travelling all over Wales. North Wales police reported people travelling to Snowdon on NY DayThe people who are all for lockdown wouldn't have visited others over Xmas. Fines were issued to a minibus full of people from different households who travelled to Pen y Fan from Cheltenham, are car parks at the beauty spot were full despite repeated warnings on travel.
I heard from a friend that there were police checks on the main road into Porthcawl with several people stoppedand reported for travelling some distance.

Sort of right- ish - however you need to minimise the strain put on the NHS first, so vacinations need to go to those highly at risk, which is the elderly, especially those in care homes, so they need to be high up the list, after the NHS staff and do the care home staff at the same time.
The thing then is that we know is that an infection will spread within a family, so do you do the households as well of the key workers at the same time?
Those working from home can be at the bottom, surely

I was stopped new years day around 9am in Cardiff. Loads of police and very few cars. Police man was pretty good and we chatted for a bit. They have been told stop and checks until the 11th so far.
Good to know the Principality is crime free with a hugely over-resourced police force.Byker28i said:

There were police checks on 1st January on the road to Porthcawl and they were also checking cars over for any problems, tyres etc. Saw about 5 or 6 police vehicles in the same place during the previous lockdown. There were also checks in Merthyr Mawr, presumably stopping people going to Ogmore-By-Sea.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
