I must admit the policy/ lockdown in Wales seems absolutely 100% crackers.
These are the most draconian measures we've seen so far yet infection rates are below England, there do not appear to be issues medically on a big scale and infection rates are falling anyway in some areas.

So the question is why ?
I don't think it has anything to do with feeding the Amazon behemoth, so why ?

It's not fair for Tesco to hoover up book sales from small book shops who are forced to close whilst Tesco remains open.

So, if Tesco can't sell books either, and people go to Amazon, that's more fair and a better solution for Wales, somehow.

No, it won’t be as amateur an effort. Sturgeon will have a comprehensive list of essential and non-essential items.
Which much like the restaurant/ cafe shambles will also manage to be vague at the same time and drop kicked off to the local councils to attempt to decipher.

Also, stopping people buying baby clothes but letting them buy vodka will stop them catching the virus, because science.

Listening to Carolyn Harris (Deputy Leader of Welsh Labour) this morning on 5 Live:
5 Live: "are kettles essential?"
Carolyn Harris: "no, because you can always boil a pan of water"
5 Live: "but that's not very safe is it?"
CH: "look, we are trying to make it fair on small shops. If they are closed, you shouldn't be able to buy goods in supermarkets instead"

Hold on, I thought this was about a killer virus and protecting the good people of Wales? Turns out it's about saving small shops. Except it isn't, because people will just buy that kettle on Amazon. So it's OK to deny Tesco the sale; meanwhile Amazon gets ever richer? Which means that the small shop loses out, so does Tesco, but Jeff Bezos wins.

Welsh Labour's official policy is to make Amazon even richer, at the expense of retailers in Wales. You couldn't make it up!
You forgot the loss of Welsh tax revenue from any UK based retailer, whereas the tax take from Amazon will be minimal....

If you ever doubted that nationalists and especially the socialist flavour are a bunch of morons who'll blindly support any lunacy emitted by their leaders, the evidence is all over this thread.

It'll be interesting to see what effect it has. The numbers will probably drop, and then spring back when the lockdowns lifted.

I genuinely cannot understand the logic behind this.

That said I watched Drakeford on BBC yesterday explaining that this was all down to commonsense and that candles were obviously not ‘essential’ and realised he was a clueless balloon who wasn’t dealing with an epidemic, or with science but was approaching a social control situation with an ideological mindset so logic wasn’t relevant.

I can see the logic of the conveniently placed Vodka.

Got a cold baby ? Can't buy baby clothes ? Here is your solution - give your offspring Vodka on those chilly days and nights.

Hey, it works for The Russians.

Plus if you drink half a bottle of vodka you'll be far too pissed to read anything, so won't be angry the books are covered up

Yes, good point. It's like there's some weird competition going on to see who can make the craziest decisions across the UK. Just when you think we've reached peak lunacy, one of the four administrations dreams up something even more loopy. Welsh Labour are currently setting the pace - come on SNP, what have you got?

How do you organise a protest? Seriously, I do think we need one if anyone fancies a march on the Bay! The Welsh government has had decades to introduce policies to help smaller retailers, but they only choose to do it now, during a two week period, after which people will go straight back to their normal purchasing habits. Doesn't make any sense. I really can't fathom Drakeford's thinking on this one, I'm trying hard not to think it's just some streak of spite designed to make people suffer. I do seriously wonder if it's time someone told the emperor that he's not wearing any clothes...

Just when you think it can't get any worse it does! Well done Drakeford!

Welsh government to buy ex-Swedish postal vans to be repurposed for covid marshals. To be used to observe the behavour of the public from the safety of the van. They are already the right colour to match the hi-viz jackets and will be fitted with CCTV and a loudhaier on the roof. Anyone caught buying a birthday card or childrens clothes will be fined!

Protests aren't the sort of action that ever changes anything.

You either have to ignore the system or push it aside.

You can’t ignore much of when you’ve got jobs worth councils getting semis from imposing fines for people not towing the line

Tbf most are just ignoring it but there have been a few protest in the bay but most have been ignored by the media so no impact. Also its pointless as the assembly are not even in sitting for the next week and the following week is all via zoom.

However there have been a few mentioned of people tarring down the covers off the non essential isle I can well see more of that over the next 2 weeks things are going to start to fall apart very soon. People are fed up and tired of this it wont take much for things to start breaking down its a tinder box atm only take a small spark to bring the whole thing down.

Shows the lunacy of the whole thing that we are even considering that it might not, actually, be a joke.
