AIUI (poorly, I'm sure
), they mostly cannot be held responsible for the content posted on their platforms. If they were, I don't see how the platforms could possibly work. I support, in theory, the right of companies to do whatever they want with their platform. It just doesn't scale to this level. If you get banned from your local pub, you can just find another. This is more like an internet-free world where 99% of pubs are 'Spoons, the whole country goes there to socialise, and if you're banned from one you effectively can't socialise any more.

t analogy, but hopefully you get my drift.It's a pickle, and I have some sympathy for the if you're banned on FB/Twitter you're being cut off idea, despite using neither platform for all the reasons that are now becoming evident.
In the context of the US, 1A is king but doesn't apply to companies, you'd need a constitutional amendment to change that and no party will dare open the constitution for change given the opportunity to make change in other or all areas.
On the other hand, if Sec230 was removed, I could see social networks being even more censorious, as they'd be responsible for the content posted on their platform. Anything they consider to be even in the vicinity of illegal/controversial would be nixed.
Overall I'm inclined to say leave it all as is and find some way to persaude people that Twitter and FaceBook are not the best sources of news.
I'd also like to believe that the issue will resolve over time. We're already seeing free speech focused social networks rising up.
Parler as a competitor to Twitter - interestingly Dorsey has said he's actively considering a "wild west" twitter where anything non-illegal goes.
There's also ThinkSpot, which has vowed to only remove content if forced to by a court of law.
I think the market will win out in the end, but its a helluva ride right now.

I'm a simple bloke and that's perhaps why I can't see the issue. If i want to go to a Pub and 'Spoons is the only one available I'll make sure I do my damndest not to get banned.
