Well, I've just witnessed a new low. My mum has been sending my two boys (1 and 4) a letter each week over lockdown with some chocolate in it as we can't see them (they are in a locked down area of South Wales while I am just over the border). This week's letter arrived today in a little plastic bag from Royal Mail with an apology on it - someone has carefully opened the envelope at on end and slipped both chocolates out. Only a couple of Freddos. What piece of fking st would be willing to lower themselves to the point that they would steal 50p worth of chocolate sent from a grandparent to their grandchild at a time when a lot of grandparents are unable to see their families?!

I've just got no words. I would fking love to meet the person who did that.
So the Simpsons is true

Well I guess we know that it happens every now and again. Imagine doing it though?! Takes a special kind of person to steal pennies worth of chocolates out of a letter.

Given we all need some cheering up, it did at least remind me of what is perhaps my single favourite Simpsons moment

My wife is an intensive care lead, so has an idea what’s happening real world, however I contribute very little here - no one listens hehe they all know better.

Just watch from afar as the tinfoil gets neatly folded into a hat.
Excellent advice. Thank you.

The much vaunted "second wave" is no more than a ripple and is certainly no reason to start another round of lockdowns, which will most definitely cause more damage than covid.
There are a few strains of the thing around the world, you're coming into winter (seems to make transmission easier) so you may get clobbered. Victoria, Australia (where I am) had a bit of an explosion in cases in July and August:

https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-coronavirus-...

A very high percentage of cases were in the 20-29 year old age group. The page doesn't contain the ages of people who died from it but they were mostly in the 60 and above age group. A good chunk of the cases were from failures in identifying and isolating people who had it. There were some religious gatherings (Eid I think) and you get a few people with the virus in those and it spreads very quickly and very widely.

That said, there's nothing being said of the different strains and the varying effects on different types of people (race, age, fitness). The medicines you can take to help you not get it is deeply politicised - Donald Trump mentions something and it's instantly poison. He gets it and has some symptoms and is clear after a few days. You then get other young, fit people who get it and die.

So, are we suggesting that all those medical experts, SAGE etc are wrong to highlight how serious the issues are ?
They are wrong to make misleading or false claims.
So, all these medical experts advising the government are making misleading or false claims ? - really ?
Just as well that we have you to give us the real facts........

In the spring, membership of Sage was initially treated like a state secret. Eventually, membership was revealed. I was disappointed. I looked up the credentials of all the members. There were no clinical immunologists. No one who had a biology degree and a post-doctoral qualification in immunology. A few medics, sure. Several people from the humanities including sociologists, economists, psychologists and political theorists. What there were in profusion – seven in total – were mathematicians. This comprised the modelling group. It is their output that has been responsible for torturing the population for the last seven months or so.
https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/what-sage-has-got-wrong/

As regards models it is garbage in garbage out.
Still doesn't answer the question - what have they stated that is misleading or false?

And who knows who else the SAGE team liaise with in academia or industry?
I wouldn't go far as to say SAGE is trying to mislead. Each department has its own objective:

SAGE to portray a mathematical model position, worst case scenario to cover themselves;
PHE to portray the worst case health scenario (they have to be conservative to cover themselves)
Dominic Cummings to provide political advise to BJ with the aim of keeping him in power and the former in a job.
Rishi to consider the economic impact.
Dominic has the overriding say on this because BJ relies completely on him for his leadership.
Based on the above mess, DC overrides BJ and his cabinet to come out with the political strategy for least public damage.

This is not a long term strategy to save the country, it's a Brexit strategy relabelled lockdown and now relabelled circuit breaker.

In the meantime small business which have taken years to build, have been destroyed with one swift blow.

I think it has been misleading over the last several weeks that the focus has been on the number of reported cases, which as I understand it is the number of positive test results. The test reportedly has a very high proportion of false positives, while the norm for counting "cases" (e.g. in the case of flu) is to count those who at least have symptoms, and maybe only those who have been admitted to hospital. So the number of cases reported will inevitably rise as the number of tests rises, and the results are extremely suspect.

I have been encouraged that in the last few days the BBC seem to be putting a bit more focus on the number of hospital admissions, number of ICU beds occupied and the number of deaths, and comparing those figures with the corresponding numbers back in the spring. There is also the whole "died with" versus "died of" thing which distorts the true impact of the virus.

So what are people’s thoughts on the circuit/fire breaker lockdown?

Saving it for closer to Christmas?

Hopefully they’ve missed the boat for half term as some areas have their half term this week.

No need for a national lock down, they can just close the country down bit by bit instead.

Lockdown imminent - bring it on! Call it a fuseblower lockdown!

As all the measures being put in place by the 'experts' seem to be having little effect, I'm wondering why they don't shut down the entire country indefinitely. Close all businesses, shops, pubs, restaurants, all entertainment, even the power stations. Once they are all shut they would be all be burnt to the ground in case there was any trace of covid. No one would be allowed to leave their home ever, we could live by candlelight and be fed on government issue food rations of a bowl of gruel that would be delivered by the army. The only time you would be allowed to leave your home would be to go and queue up for a covid test. And if found positive you'd be given an appointment to be shot in the back of the head and buried in a pit.

I am so fking angry with the bds that call themselves a government. And all the smug gits that just say 'wear a mask it's not that hard'.

When will the tide turn?

Slowly but surely the whole country will go into Tier 3. Then we'll be right back to square one. Except that it will be far worse this time around as half the country will be out of work with no furlough. Then what?

It will all be okay because Boris won’t have to shoulder any blame.

He “had to lock us down to save lives“ and Brexit would have been a roaring success had it not been for the pesky virus.

Cue lucrative ex PM financial benefits. Everyone who matters is happy.

I’ve said this to much mocking but there are documents said to be leaked which refer to the great debt reset which means the bankruptcy of countries will be used to justify removal of all privately owned properties and financial assets and the population placed on UBI.
These assets will not be owned by governments but by the IMF under the guise of the world debt reset organisation.

Well, that's us rumbled then - have to admit it, you've got us Illuminati types bang to rights, fair and square. Suffice to say we're obviously less than chuffed about your daring expose of our plans, and you're now on the list for reprocessing as part of the impending Great Reset - in your case, re-processed into cat food.

Your only chance of survival is to go completely off the grid, as fast as possible - throw away your phone, delete all of your social media accounts, unplug and then burn your router, shave off your hair and go and live on a small hitherto uninhabited island in the Hebrides.....and even then there's a good chance we'll find you, and if we do...Whiskas time. We're not monsters though - you'll have the dignity of choosing whether you want to be tinned or end up in easy-opening pouches with jelly.

Don't say you weren't warned.

Who would have thought the government could ban people from seeing their families indefinitely and not attending their funerals or weddings and everyone would accept it...
Tell people they couldn’t work anymore and had to go in the dole or retrain
Tell them they couldn’t have cancer treatments or go to hospital because they were now for Covid only
Can’t see a doctor anymore or a dentist

Stealing all your assets wouldn’t be much of a stretch would it when you think about it

After all its for the greater good
