They choose their words carefully - lots of cabinet members speak out against a national lockdown yet are happy with numerous local lockdowns which could eventually cover the vast majority of the population anyway. It’s just a national lockdown wrapped up as something else.
I’m sure they are circumspect in their speech.

The R rate declining is however a blaring, unfiltered foghorn.

This is what bothers me. It seems only a matter of time that most, if not all, areas of England will 'upgrade' to tier 3. But when? End of November????

Tier 3 has considerably less restrictions than the previous lockdown.

Schools and "non-essential" retail are still open.

I have some sympathy for this, but the behaviour was very much lockdown...you could have put a dining table in the main road and had lunch, the traffic was so light.
It was so quiet the pigeons would be asleep in the middle of the road when I went to work.

This was the A120 near the M11 junction in March.
But it wasn't a proper lockdown.
I would say the M6 went down to around 40% of its normal capacity at the start of lockdown. My commute went from an hour to around 40-45 mins.

Thing is ... it's *still* around 45 mins, despite the increase in traffic. I'm guessing there's some tipping point that results in congestion (especially around Junc 5-9) and the traffic still hasn't returned to the levels that cause that.

Why happens when we’re all in Tier 3 and the cases keep on rising?

Raab was on the news today saying local lockdowns were the way forward. Perhaps the media knows more than a member of the cabinet.

Specifically Wednesday. Public announcement Monday. But you told the papers today? Hell of a way to run things.

Going abroad this Sunday. Would I have to quarantine for 2 weeks if I came back the following Sunday?

To be fair pretty much every move the government has made so far has been revealed by the papers prior to any official statement.

True. I’ve just looked at the lockdown restrictions for Wales and they allow you to return from exempted locations. Heading to the canaries so hopefully we will be ok.

Indeed. Remember the stream of pro mask rubbish just before at the end of July ...? It's just the govt double checking the all important focus group feedback first to see how much pushback there might be.

Is this a focus group for England or the U.K.?

Losing the will to live.

I got nabbed by a speed-gun toting copper a mile further down that road at 6.48am Sunday June 14th 2015.

Was like your photo, no other traffic and the stretch I'm talking about is dead straight with no junctions/worries about joining traffic for 3 miles.

I was in the wrong I admit, shouldn't have done it but thought I'd stretch the bike's legs. Just thankful to the person in the 911 on the opposite carriageway who repeatedly flashed me & made me sit up and brake.

Got done for 98mph which was a result given the speed I was carrying half a mile earlier, that would have been an automatic DQ and possibly a mention in the tabloids.

Me too.. Either hysteria or the media being the "mouthpiece" for the Government!
It’s just ridiculous. I’m going to minimise risk to myself and others as I, and they, see fit. Otherwise the govt can just gtf.
