Yes. National lockdown from Wednesday next week! Only press reports at the minute though......!
Well fantastic. Hysteria via media once again.

Just so over this!
Me too.. Either hysteria or the media being the "mouthpiece" for the Government!
It’s just ridiculous. I’m going to minimise risk to myself and others as I, and they, see fit. Otherwise the govt can just gtf.

There are rumours that the government will need Labour votes to get a new lockdown through the commons.

Hopefully as many brave Tory MPs as possible rebel if it comes to that because it is past time for this farce to end.

At very least they now need a tier 4, which is the equivalent of a full lockdown at a local level with travel restrictions in and out to stop people crossing tier borders. The difference between tier 2 and 3 is a bit pointless if you ask me and the vast majority of the country will be tier 3 before we know it.

Have it on a defined scale for example 500 cases per 100,000 tier 4 is activated, released again when it drops below 300.

People will then have a sense of what is going to happen and when, and also encourages more focus individually to bring the infection rate down to be allowed out again.

315 deaths of under 60's with no pre existing conditions.........the economic, mental and human cost of this insanity will be far higher, not just here but all across the West.

As angry facebook karen will point out, imagine how bad it would be with no measures! Health before wealth! All while claiming on the dole anyway.

If the old and sick do however fill the hospitals, then there is no room for the under 60s to get any routine life saving treatments, cancer, stents, knifed in a nightclub stitched up, tonsils removed etc.

I'm against lockdowns 100% btw and locking down now before Christmas would destroy so many more business than before its unimaginable. Christmas litterly keeps alot of businesses afloat the rest of the year. Look at game. Is it not Christmas they take about 90% of the years takings? Mental, but again I'd hospitals are full to the brim of old with covid then anyone young cant be treated and then those numbers will rise.

My example in real life was a friend who was rather big, on steroids big. Anyway got an infection in his leg (jag site) and before you know it was on a ventilator. He would probably have died at 30 if the hospitals was packed with covid at the time. So I can see both viewpoints.

I still against lockdown though.

On the Cure worse than the disease thread it was pointed out that there has been 800 excess heart disease deaths in the under 65s due to not seeking medical treatment in time or it not being available (GPs).

So from that one disease more have died in the under 60 age group due to lockdown than died from Covid without a comorbidity.

We also arent talking of the over 60s in reality. We are talking of the over eighties. Moreover half the deaths in care homes were of people who had dementia.

Some may think it is acceptable to destroy our economy and society to "save" them. In reality it is their time and when people could still be said to die of "old age" that is how their deaths would have been regarded.

It's been the method since the start.

Leak to the press (normally the Telegraph first)
Don't deny / comment or "we are exploring every possibility"
Leak to the BBC via LK.
Don't deny / comment or "we are exploring every possibility"
Wait three days
Lockdown.

The unfortunate fact is that people of all ages die all the time, from all manner of causes. With no current cure, a virus is not something you can just keep hiding from and there is clearly no longer term strategy for this beyond hope we get a vaccine and hope it works properly. We should have locked down the elderly and vulnerable and continued the rest of the country as something close to normal. Instead, we will all be feeling the effects for decades to come.

Then there's the more wide ranging effects - children not being educated, students locked in their halls, erosion of civil liberties, people unable to attend funerals, businesses going under, government borrowing that will have to be paid back, empty sport stadiums, increase in divorces and domestic abuse, the effect on mental health, farcical mask policy......................all for something so deadly, most people don't know they've got it.

A pre Christmas lockdown will be the final nail for retail. What a crap situation. Depressing!

It will slow things for a bit but surely we'll be back to where we are by the new year with people going mad in December!

The trouble is, any lockdown is just pressing the pause button.
Pause for what though? no ‘cure’ is coming anytime soon

Its about ensuring capacity, flattening the curve, whatever you want to call it. Why can't people understand that?!
