MikeT66 posted this at 15.54pm today of a most fetching t-shirt which just about sums up the lot of em.

As for starting the lockdown on Thursday ahead of any protesting on bonfire night, I think that might be wishful thinking and do hope it kicks off spectacularly, so who is going to be put on the bonfire?

So thats it then. We're stuffed.

Lockdown until December, Boris "saves Christmas" and we're "allowed" to visit family, virus starts to burn itself out Jan / Feb with maybe another lockdown thrown in for dramatic effect, March, April, May time we start to get the vaccine to NHS staff, the old and high risk, Government pats itself on the back for "saving lives".

Economic ruin ensues....
This is exactly how I see things playing out.

We're ruined.
Were not ruined were half f*cked, our children on the other hand, f*cked and ruined. They'll be looking up to millennials gig economy jobs with envy...

The only very small consolation in all this, is that other countries are being equally stupid in their reaction to an illness that has a 99.94% survival rate.

I am clutching at straws I know but I am so p!ssed off right now that I have no real words to say- well I have lots but I couldn’t possibly put them down without getting banned!
Like who and please don't say Sweden?

I would say the governement were rubbing their hands in glee when France and Germany went in to lockdown.

They could sagely nod in public that they are clearly "doing the right thing" now because other countries are doing similar.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the restrictions we currently face are a veritable liberal utopia compared to what would have been imposed under a Corbyn government.

Surely better anyone over 60 isolate or watch what they are doing, everyone else get on with it, get to work, keep the economy going etc. Anyone below that likely got kids in school or college around them every day any way so likely to pick this thing up but highly unlikely to die based on the stats. This new lockdown will be absolutely devastating to the whole economy. I’m 44 and ready to get on with it, if I get it I fight it. But I will have a job and can feed my family etc.
No can do comrade, we all need to be dragged down to the same level.

Unless you’re in the party of course.

Well France and Germany for starters who have gone into lockdowns - I mean in France you can only go out to within 1km of your house- makes a run for exercise a bit tricky wouldn’t you say!

I still can’t work out why we are all doing this to destroy economies.

It only takes a few brain cells to work it out if you have them.

Why close gyms? they should be subsidised!
Yup I hate gyms but I've yet to meet anyone whose health has improved through this gigantic c*ck up. The more people loose what little exercise they got commuting or whatever, gyms etc the more unhealthy and susceptible they'll be to the virus and all the usual things. Don't worry though Boris telling us all he's a bit fat will fix all that right?
Can't believe they have shut gyms again.

I kept paying my membership (£65/month) all over the time they were shut as I wanted a gym to go back to. Then when they opened I found my new WFH routine meant I couldn't get in as much. I was all set to cancel this month bit reversed the decision a few days ago.....now they've closed them again.

Utter wkers..... WFH, no healthy routine, loss of motivation... is all adding up to me getting out of shape and making me more at risk of dying from the bat plague....FFS.
I got quite lucky because my gym said in the original lockdown that monthly subscriptions would go to charity if you didn't quit (the gym is owned by a charitable foundation), then when lockdown ended they said the months would be added to your membership. So that worked out well smile

No idea why they're closing gyms though. Clear public heath benefit and as a far as i can see, no particular evidence they're a transfer risk. Schools and universities on he other hand? A clear pubic benefit? Absolutely. The top Covid transfer risk? Also yes.

I've been very lucky during Covid and have been saving more money than I ever have. But I feel super sorry for those businesses screwed over in Cornwall (for example) where the risk was negligible.

Any country that doesn’t think that a futile lockdown is the answer.

Anecdotally everyone I know within a 50 mile range of me can work from home and has yet to see a significant personal impact from this.

Only a couple are locking down, the rest of us are stocking up on home drinks in preparation of a home bar scenario.

Only losers will be the local bars, pubs and restaurants we normally meet in.

The second lockdown will be both poorly observed and pointless.

Our local hospital trust covers 250,000 people, from the 1st to the 25th October there were 16 people admitted to hospital with Covid.

16... 0.006% Our town has a population of 60,000 so from that 4 people have ended up in hospital. Not dead just in hospital. Now explain to me again why we are locking down?
Of those 16,
Do you know how many were admitted to Hospital because of Covid or if they were in for other things and happened to test positive?

'Stay at Home' guidance linked to from that 'New National Restrictions' webpage:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-1...

GOV.uk said:
If you have a positive COVID-19 test result

If your test result is positive, you must continue to self-isolate for 10 days from when your symptoms started, or when your test was taken. Anyone who is notified that they have tested positive for COVID-19 and advised to self-isolate has a legal duty to self-isolate. Failure to comply may result in a fine, starting from £1,000.

You will receive a request by text, email or phone to log into the NHS Test and Trace service website and provide information about recent close contacts. This information will be used to give public health advice to your contacts, but they will not be told your identity.

It is very important that you provide this information, as it will play a vital role in helping to protect your family, friends and the wider community. It is now an offence to knowingly provide false information about your close contacts to NHS Test and Trace and failure to comply with these requirements may result in a fine.
So no more 'forgetting' your friends' details or even that you have friends.

(HTF would they know if you were with someone at any point??)

Cleaning your home to reduce spread of infection

Regularly clean frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles and remote controls, and shared areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. This is particularly important if you have a clinically extremely vulnerable person in the house.

Use standard household cleaning products like detergents and bleach to clean your home as these are very effective at getting rid of the virus on surfaces. Clean shared bathrooms each time they are used, especially the surfaces you have touched, using your usual bathroom cleaning products.

Cleaning cloths and personal waste such as used tissues and disposable face coverings should be stored in disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin. Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.

Use a dishwasher to clean and dry your crockery and cutlery. If this is not possible, wash them by hand using washing up liquid and warm water and dry thoroughly using a separate tea towel.

Laundry

To minimise the possibility of dispersing virus through the air, do not shake dirty laundry. Wash items in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. All dirty laundry can be washed in the same load. If you do not have a washing machine, wait a further 72 hours after your self-isolation has ended when you can then take the laundry to a public launderette.

Do not share towels, including hand towels and tea towels.
Really?

Really???

That and the advice further down the page - to 'think about what you could do in isolation - perhaps watch a film' - is utterly patronising.

The government really has to tell us how to wash our own clothes?

Just FRO.

Some perspective.

Graph is BBC via Lockdown Sceptics.

Not so long ago 50 or 60k respiratory deaths was normal.
We didn't have 50-60k excess deaths either back in the years where 'respiratory deaths' are at that level. We are almost certainly going to have 50-60k excess deaths this year. we might as well accept what the numbers are quite clearly saying, covid has had a pretty vicious impact on us and tbh seems likely to continue doing so, considerably more so than most other prior years in fact.

Nevertheless there's pretty much nothing we can do but accept the unfortunate fact that some people will continue dying as the alternative is to utterly wreck the country and the livelihoods of a whole swath of people - far more than those likely to be directly impacted by covid.
