Surely, If the policies were thought to be working then they would be celebrated.

The oppressor and oppressed hierarchy narrative has been around since Adam was a lad
That's because it's an accurate assessment of the structure of most societies.

You may think that is accurate, and that is fine............many will not.

Your 'accurate assessment' suggests that oppressor / oppressed hierarchical structures are oppressive by nature...............They aren't. That's why I said narrative.

You do realise that "culture wars" is used to broadly explain the polarised views between Progressives/liberal and Othodox/conservatives, dont you?
Clearly

tangerine_sedge said:
You seem to be pushing the view that it's only the progressives that are causing the culture war.
No. Takes two to Tango. The oppressor and oppressed hierarchy narrative has been around since Adam was a lad. It's hard to define precisely when & where the present day culture wars began in earnest.............the seeds were sown hundreds of years ago.
I'm confused by your posts. Your previous post seemed to put all the blame on the left for the 'culture wars', but here you accept that both sides are to blame?
Re the culture war, yes both sides are to blame. Much depends on where people sit on the ideologue / pragmatist scale...........one is far happier than the other when continuous improvements are being made.

Clearly nothing is black and white............The topic of equality / culture war is hardly a new subject for the left & right to debate. Aristotle's views on a fairer society and redistribution of wealth are well documented. He said “the truly democratic statesman must study how the multitude may be saved from extreme poverty” and “measures must be contrived that bring about lasting prosperity for all”. 2250 years ago.

The left and the right are extremely wary of the consequences of the other shifting too far to the extremes............and rightly so.

They're entitled to their view on the subject, but they're wrong.

Oppressor/oppressed hierarchies are, by definition, oppressive. How can an oppressor not be oppressive? This is utter nonsense.

Whose policies? There's not been a fundamental change in federal Immigration policy during the Biden administration, due to much of the policy agenda being stuck in the courts.

So one thing that’s been bugging me about yesterdays statements about Trump.

It’s alleged that when he was in ‘The Beast’ limo and he wanted to go to the capitol, the people with him told him that it was a bad idea and that they would return to the West Wing, and then he leapt at the driver and grabbed the wheel and demanded he go where he wants…..

So I’ve never ever seen the President ‘riding shotgun’ in his limos. I don’t believe this happens.

So how did the fat 76 year old slob manage to grab the steering wheel exactly, if like as always, he’s sat in the back with his advisor at the time?

For a start, he wasn't in the Beat, but in one of the armoured SUVs.

I believe that this refers to an incident when he was in a standard SUV not "the beast", so easier to access the front seats. Also, it's hearsay from a secondary source, so may have been embroidered along the way. I think it's likely that he wanted to go to the capitol, I think it's likely that he physically got in the drivers 'space', but whether he actually grabbed the steering wheel or the driver I don't know...

Props for having a go on Katy Perry, but pretty sure the guy has mental health issues. Gone from Hippy to Nazi (so to speak - don't go pedantic on me) very quickly.

That video was hilarious and sums up the leadership of the US succinctly.

Perhaps almost as amusing is that you call the guy a Nazi for critiquing the Greatest and Most Lucid/Popular/Bestest President in US history.

I mean he clearly caveated by saying "so to speak" so he wasn't being literal, but Brand has drunk a great deal of the alt-right Koolade. He's also an absolute charlatan.

Use of Nazi these days is so overused that the reaction isn't a knee-jerk hatred of the person accused of being such, but to question the motives of the person making the accusation.

He caveated it, so that's okay then laugh he isn't a literal nazi, just a figurative one?

If I called Biden a doddery old fossil barely in control of his own faculties (so to speak...) I'm sure you thread warriors would be all over it as besmirching the President...

Brand has drunk a lot of stuff, for sure. I can stand about 30 seconds of one of his videos. 'so to speak' is a copout; make the accusation and back pedal in the same sentence.

Posters who throw far-right, fascist and Nazi into an internet discussion should help you to understand who the extremist really is.

Not really buddy. I was making the observation that he's gone from Left Wing to Right Wing, as have a few other people who struggle with mental health and/or addictions.

I don't know about his mental state or whether he has any current addictions, but he does seem to be chasing a certain type of viewer. He's obviously decided to trash his own reputation as a comedian in exchange for easy viewer numbers from the alt-right.

He's had a long history of supporting mainly left wing politicians and views, for example supporting the Greens, and Corbyn in the mid 2010's, but he seems to have dabbled with conspiracy theories for a long time, with comments about the World Trade Centre attacks, and subsequently alt-right theories since.

It's odd that his comedy was always political, but picked it's targets from across the political spectrum, now it appears he mainly targets democrats, so what's changed in the last 5 years?
