46th President of the United States, Joe Biden
Discussion
Dozens of Democrats have written to Biden asking him to renounce his authority to authorise nuclear strikes.

Doesn't sound like they have much confidence in him.

Way to spin the story, which is actually that they specifically see this as a chance to remove the power from future, less stable presidents (as they were unable to remove it from the previous, unstable president). Because they think that Biden might be the kind of sensible, rational, person that actually sees this as a good idea.https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democrats-biden-r...

And you guys claim that Byker is the biased one...
Just wondering if anyone has picked up on the Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo yet?
Some lay the blame for New York's poor coronavirus performance at his feet. His involvement in giving legal immunity to care home companies during the Coronavirus pandemic is being questioned.
Allegations of sexual harrassment now coming in?
Apologies if I've missed you posting this, Byker.

What would be the point?
Don't fight this one. It's ridiculous.
It is ridiculous, that Biden's own colleague's don't trust him on his own with the Football. Don't fight this one. It's ridiculous.
"Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks," the letter from Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., and obtained by Politico reads. "Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or exhibited behavior that caused other officials to express concern about the president’s judgment."

Quite. Hence the question, when did the Democrats suggest removing the Football decision from Trump? Clearly he was unpredictable. What did the Dems do specifically on this when Trump was in power? Why wait until Biden is in power to bring it up?"Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks," the letter from Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., and obtained by Politico reads. Because they’re very aware that Trump wouldn’t ever consider it, but Biden as a level headed smart person would think ‘actually they might be onto something’
Are you suggesting opposition politicians shouldn't suggest things in case their suggestions are ignored? Is that how politics works in your experience?RonaldMcDonaldAteMyCat said:

It would have shown they were concerned about it. Politicians launch policies and make statements they know they can't immediately deliver, all of the time.
As it happens, it looks as if they had no particular issue with Trump having sole power over the nuclear button, but they seemingly are concerned about Biden having it.
Another day in Democrat paradise!

I’m aware that politics is a game of getting what you want by the simplest path possible. Are you not? Because that’s what they’re doing. The Democrats hold the power, they can now ask the man in charge to consider such a radical change and if he goes for it they can actually make it happen.
Asking when Trump was in power would have been absolutely pointless do you not agree?
And would have been entirely counter-productive! Can you imagine the Twitter-reaction from Trump? "Look at these traitors who hate the US and want us to give up our nuclear bombs". No, it would have been worse than pointless to have even considered raising the question.Asking when Trump was in power would have been absolutely pointless do you not agree?
Plus, of course, before Trump the question never even arose. I mean, who could have imagined that the President would have been so unstable and so unpredictable that we would have thought in our worst nightmares that he might start a nuclear war in a fit of pique?
