a sudden upswing in racism due to a few footballers kneeling.
Twist-tastic. Nobody said it was due to the knee taking. ‘strewth banghead
When Zoon says "it can't be a coincidence" on a thread about taking the knee, I hardly see my statement as 'twist-tastic'. Therefore both of your sentences above are demonstrably wrong - have another go trooper. hehe
Oops…he did indeed; comprehension fail! Sorry!

Reported being the operative word.
It's a good thing if people are feeling more confident that something will be done. I suspect such incidents have been massively underreported for decades, along with all crime.
Tend to agree.

I'd expect prosecutions to rise too, but probably by nowhere near as much - will be good to see the stats on that too.

We have to do what we can to stamp racism out. But the methods need to be effective.

Now they are no longer taking the knee what other problem can footballers solve for us? Is there a gesture they could make before every match to solve domestic violence?

I'd like to see them virtue signal over the other main political issue that the left wing bleat on about, which is the wealth/income gap between those in high paid jobs and those on low paid jobs.

Now that would be a grand virtue signalling effort to say the least given that some footballers are earning in one WEEK what some in the UK will need to work for 15 YEARS or more to obtain!

It would be top virtual signalling if they then did it in a 3rd world country where it would likely take the average worker more than a full lifetime to earn in GBP or USD the same as a top earning footballer does in 1 WEEK.

Lets see them kneel to that!

You could also join the dots and wonder if any of this "no more taking the knee" decision is anything at all to do with the location of the upcoming World Cup ? wink

It's a fair question but taken at face value and given it's the domestic league I'm not sure why it would be?

Keep in mind they haven't said they won't do it rather the frequency will be reduced.

I think the players may have felt a bit silly taking the knee for the last few months but didn't know when to stop. Rather than stop in the middle of a season the players /FA decided to wait until the current season finished.

The England team may end up taking the knee in Qatar. After all, it's something Southgate supposedly is passionate about and chastised other teams for not participating, right?.....

Feels like it would be more meaningful if it was done in one of the most racist regions on the planet though.

I think it’s a fair comment in the context of them wanting to get on their soapbox about fairness, privilege and equality.

Footballers seem to get the biggest free pass on ridiculous income, celebs to a certain extent too though it seems like they have to be more careful to have the “correct” politics.

Looks like some of the teams are still taking the knee. Let's see if they keep it up during the season and when traveling to Qatar.

They said they'd do it for the first game of the season.

I don't see the logic in that.

Certain causes appeal to certain people who support them. That doesn't mean that there is some requirement that they should also support other causes. For example if I donate to Cancer Research must I also donate to Help 4 Heroes? And if I don't does that somehow reduce the value of my donation to CC?

It may be that racism affects Footballers more because they witness it at close quarters or that it affects a lot of their team mates. I don't know what the reason is but it's ridiculous to suggest that there's some "obligation" on them to support other causes as well just because they support this one is ridiculous.

Re: your point about "footballers getting a free pass on ridiculous income" that is hilarious, especially on PH where everybody is on "six figs" wink

Are you sure? this article seemed to suggest it would be ongoing through the season.
