Which is why we should bring them over and vaccinate them. Not only would it show the Europedians that we don't hate them it would be a boost to the economy.
Nice idea but unfortunately much of the EU has been or is in the process of being brainwashed into believing the 'fake nooz' being put out by the likes of Macron that the AZ vaccine is not only ineffective but worth going on strike over if, for example, you and your health industry colleagues are told they're having it (as has happened in Belgium).
Zero of my continental friends (France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands) think AZ is ineffective. They all want to be vaccinated asap.
But of course that's just anecdotal.
Maybe your friends are all as brainy as you and not so inclined to believe what they're reading in the press or indeed are being told by the authorities.
Some of them are the authorities. I have friends who work in local government in Germany.
In terms of "brainyness" or whatever -- most of them are uni-or-better educated, pretty simply because the work I do demands that, and I met most of them through working in their respective countries with them. I would say it's a fair bet that few if any are tabloid readers.
One of the the cleverest of them is an agrégé *. She's currently got C19 (she's a teacher), and wants her 81 and 82 year old parents to be vaccinated ASAP (North France) -- they have been informed they'll be given their vaccination dates in late March. Note: that's not vaccinations in late March; it's when they'll be told their vaccination date.

* agrégé = French national level competition exam that leads to the best teaching jobs in France, doesn't really have a UK equivalent but if it did it would be like getting a professorship at oxbridge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agr%C3%A9gation

Anyway, sorry for the thread tangent. Back to good numbers yesterday, surprisingly.

Only for England.

The other countries have been doing a lot more 2nd jabs (Scotland+Wales did 17,000 between them yesterday).

Yep been noticing wales increasing the rate of the 2nd dose over the last week but we have almost vaccinated 1/3 of the population already. Im guessing the refit of the factory has been completed now so we should see the numbers ramp up. Could well be over 20million vaccinated by end of week. 30million could well be hit by the 3rd week in march.

Are they bringing forward the second jab? It certainly looks that way as just over half a million had their first jab by 24th December and yet over 700,000 have already had their second that is more than 200,000 more than should have been covered by the 12 week delay between the first and second doses even taking into account the 12 week delay only started in January.

According to the data, 401,115 2nd doses were given in the week ending 10th Jan.

Got a text asking me to book today, and now booked in for a week tomorrow.

I’m 51, no underlying conditions etc (also had COVID last year but mild case). North Hants. I was expecting to be called early April so they’re a month ahead or thereabouts.

Nope, I just look it. I shan't be buying any more of that anti-wrinkle cream from you, that's for sure.

I am in North Hants also, I was Tier 4 but only had the vaccine last week - way behind schedule. It all seems a bit random.
My wife is older than you but hasn’t had any contact re vaccine.

I think it has to be down to how fast surgeries are getting through their patients? I was surprised when I got the text today and honestly I’m not that comfortable knowing that people who should be ahead of me in the same county are actually not.

It is random for sure. A 47 year old friend got her last week because of her ‘asthma’. She hasn’t needed any treatment for it since she was in her late teens. She was wtf at that one.

I think it is based on a key word search from medical records, even if they are historical conditions.

Wifey and I had our first jab today (Pfizer one). Must admit the organisation was spot on, no hanging around at all, even with a lot of "are you allergic to" .....type questions. Had jab, then had to wait for 15 minutes just to watch for any adverse reaction, then home. No side effects at all, none (despite the list of potential things they read out). Quite impressed with it all.

It has to be.

You don't go through tens of millions of medical records one by one manually, looking for whether someone has "chronic asthma" instead of "asthma". It'll be a keyword search implemented differently on umpteen backend patient record systems.

It's unlikely there will be any real coordination or standards on how the searches work or exactly what they are searching for. It'll be 80/20, get as much done as possible and mop up stragglers later.

I wish medical IT was perfect. I did some work for Siemens Medical years ago, and even then it was a bit of a stshow. They are doing their best with what they have, and mistakes will be made.

That would make sense. I had a DVT 4 years ago but that was resolved. Could be that I guess.

I agree. Many medical records will also have been transcribed from paper records adding to the complexity.

I’m not sure it is that sophisticated.

My wife has mild Asthma, but does take medication for it, she is 58 but no contact re vaccine.

I have been shielding for the last year based on many letters received from the NHS, my original appointment (via the NHS website) was for this Saturday, my GP Surgery contacted me last week and offered an earlier appointment in their newly setup centre.
