Currently waiting outside my local surgery for my jab.

I had a previous health condition (and I'm 37 years old) but didn't think it would be counted, so didn't phone. I got a call at lunch saying if I could make 5.00.

Having the Oxford jab Apparently.

Slots really fill up don't they ?
Got the letter Saturday went to book most days available from about Tuesday onwards at 3 or 4 places
Didnt book it as wanted to check something
Now next slots are Sunday onwards so all being well Lunchtime Sunday that's me done with the 2nd one early June
I booked my appointment on Saturday got a date 3 weeks off. Thought 'fair enough'.
My mate and my wife have both booked appointments today - but they got appointments next week. At the same place as well...

I could cancel mine I suppose, but I'm sure I can hold out an extra week.

That's very efficient.
This whole episode, I think, has been a bit of an eye opener & shows what can be done. I fear nothing will change but you never know.
I've had a couple of test over the last month or so, when I've accompanied my son. The test centres and the staff have been excellent.

View from the north east, its not going as well as could be expected, local news reporting no availability of slots for shots, lots of people complaining and asking why ? It doesn't help that people have friends all over the country reporting back how quick they are getting "done" hehe
But if you go into Yorkshire ,Leeds there are any number of dates and times,
originally we were doing well , so well they limited vaccines to our area, surely someone is looking at this nationality and making changes .

Really is very impressive. They usually do it in the larger surgery apparently, but had some AZ vials going spare here at the local one.

I was in and out in no time at all, they explained all the side effects to me (just sitting in the car park for 15 minutes now as a precaution)

I had the AZ yesterday and felt absolutely fine until I woke up at 2am aching like hell and sweating like a pig. Felt a bit off all day but that was the worst.

Ahhh, you're one of those people.
Can you explain what you mean by that?
Genuinely not sure.

I am firmly of the belief that lower infection numbers will give more ammunition for the government to stick with the published roadmap dates. And, as recent evidence seems to suggest, vaccinations have an effect on reducing infection spread, then this would back up my point.
Infection gives better immunity than the vaccine. If we had opened up earlier last summer it would have reduced numbers in hospital this winter. Then, aided by the vaccine program, got to the stage where everyone has some immunity much quicker.

They should work together.
Where’s your evidence that infection gives better immunity than the vaccine?

By the way I had Covid in March 2020. I had 2 antibody tests since, in June 2020 and January 2021. In my first test I had high volume of antibodies. By January they were low.

Again, if you can show some quality evidence to back up your assertions I’ll take your view more seriously.

Your lack of understanding on how antibodies work explains alot.
Care to elaborate or educate me further?

Isn't that normal for a triggered immune system, something vaccines are designed to do in order to work? Good to hear you're feeling better now.

Could just be more staff or something ?

Sometimes a web booking coincides with a cancellation or two not seen previously?

Totally agree, I was just surprised it took so long to kick in. I did not even have the normal sore arm when I headed off to bed.

From what I've read and from family, the second day is a typical arm and temperature time.

Apparently for the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine it's 3 weeks before the full benefit arrives (first jab) and 2 weeks for the second.

I was exactly the same. Felt fine all evening, woke up at 4am shivering and joint pain all over. Has worn off during the day today, just a bit achy now.

I had the AZ last Friday and have had no side effects at all.

A very slick and efficient process. I was in and out in less that ten minutes (wife was driving so I didn’t need wait fo the 15 minutes).

Post initial recovery from viral infection your antibody levels will fall, but your immune system has memory cells that can rapidly be copied and start churning out antibodies if/when the body comes across the same antigens again.

If you go to the summary of this piece in Nature it explains it

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-20247-4

That doesn't mean that infection is better at establishing immunity than the vaccine btw. They could be equally good, and of course the vaccination kills infinitely fewer people than does the actual virus.

The missus has hers booked for the weekend and she's just asked me if she needs to take any ID along ?

I don't know, so I said I'd ask on here - so do you need to take any form of ID with you ?

No - you might need the text/email confirming the booking; but I didn't need to provide anything.

Two of my relatives were asked for ID and a credit card was accepted. Just in case it varies - best to take something?

Fair point - not going to hurt is it!
