How many have been vaccinated so far?

You would hope people are a little more attentive to the data if considering that sort of thing. First AZN doses are the ones causing side effects, second AZN doses I believe (and per Zoe app) are much better tolerated. It's second Pfizer doses that cause more side effects and especially per trials so far, mixing pfizer to azn first doses seems to cause considerably more adverse reactions even if it seemingly also produces higher antibody titers.
You have a far higher opinion than I of the intelligence and information analysis capabilities of the population!I personally consider there will have been zero attempt by the average person to read anything more than the BBC news (which is doesn't really do much analysis beyond "we're all going to die, get jabbed") so the thought process will be nothing more than "Urgh, that AZ jab made me ill, not having that again. Ooh, you are offering me a different one, okay!"

I believe the fairly limited data so far is that mixing vaccines while producing better antibody titers is also causing more significant adverse reactions. It doesn't seem plausible that feeling rough post jab is likely to make that switch become official policy. Unless second AZN doses start very clearly showing ViTT at the same rate as first doses (so far unclear), there's probably not any good reason to offer that at the moment either.
What I was inferring was that people are cancelling their second jabs because the first made them feel so ill (especially younger groups who may have been through Covid itself without significant sickness). Hence if the government has noted people cancelling/not attending for second doses, would they try the "carrot" of Pfizer/Moderna for people who had had AZ first doses. I'm sure if such a campaign was attempted they'd try to spin that Pfizer/Moderna give less risk of being horribly ill.

I would try canceling and rebooking your second. I trimmed a few weeks off my dates by doing this and actually had my second one earlier today instead of the end of the month.
Just tried this and cast my net much wider in terms of locations, earliest I could get was rebooking the slot I'd just cancelled!PBCD said:

today's jabs
first, second, total
136,802 313,482 450,284
I thought we would be consistently well above half a million a day by now.first, second, total
136,802 313,482 450,284
Any idea where the bottleneck is?

I guess it would depend how you view the UK vaccinating young people with a tiny risk of death with the result we're taking vaccines away from other countries where people with a far larger risk are not protected yet, due to a lack of supply. Some people might regard that as a bit immoral/ Britain First etc.
Just in case anyone is in this situation, my second AZN dose was scheduled at 11 weeks to occur at the end of June. I've not received any specific message asking me to rebook, but I thought I would give it a go and cancel my 2nd appointment to see if I could pull it forward.
Pleasantly surprised to see stacks of availability in multiple locations (in the surrey area). I've just now rebooked it for tomorrow morning (which gives just over an 8 week period from the 1st dose).
Initially I was a bit concerned about cancelling my original second appointment in case there weren't any much better alternatives. But it looks like there is lots of availability for 2nd AZN doses.

Given the UK has spent months insisting how clever they were by increasing the dosing interval to 12 as it 'works better', it's a little odd to suddenly be encouraging all and sundry to have their 2nd dose asap now.......Pleasantly surprised to see stacks of availability in multiple locations (in the surrey area). Not particularly. The interval of 12 weeks was initially introduced to get more people have their first dose more quickly. Now we aren't using AZ for first doses the second doses of AZ can be brought forwards. isaldiri said:

You're a cynic TBH I was originally fairly keen to wait the longer period for the second dose as I think the evidence does point towards that being slightly better. But I doubt there is a huge difference for me between 8 weeks and 11 weeks. And I think it seems clear people do need their second dose.
But my main point is that there looks to be stacks of AZN doses available, so if anyone wants an earlier second AZN dose, I would suggest it is likely to be possible.

My second jab is next Tuesday. Although invited to rebook for an earlier second jab the fact you had to cancel your initial appointment put me off. I was in 3 different parts England over a couple of weeks and there was no way to know whether I could find a suitable slot. Would have gone for it if I could have checked availability and moved the slot rather than having to cancel and rebook.TBH I was originally fairly keen to wait the longer period for the second dose as I think the evidence does point towards that being slightly better. I had a go at trying to rebook my 2nd Pfizer but couldn't get anything sooner.
Same, doesn't look like you can bring Pfizer doses forward, had a mild panic when I cancelled and started looking at dates that were further into the future, fortunately my one slot that I had just cancelled was still there.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
