Well, the mob was intending on hanging the vice president, and possibly others...
But a coup would be to take overall power by the mob - but they wanted to disrupt the ratification process of the incoming president rather than seize power for themselves? It was a violent insurrection intent on disrupting the legitimate election process and the transition to the next President.
To top the craziness off:
Trump offered to give Kim Jong a lift home in Air Force One: https://www.thedailybeast.com/donald-trump-tried-t...
Sure, lets just take a federal aircraft, the federal aircraft in to North Korean airspace !
Republican leader Steve Scalise still refuses to confirm the result of the election and that it wasn't "stolen" https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/21/st...
Jessica Watkins releases new information, claims she worked as a security guard for speakers at Trump's pre-riot rally and that she met with secret service agents.
Her defense say that her actions were pre-planned and she was at the call of Trump who "activated" her and others. BUT it wasn't an insurrection, just supporting a legitimate Government.

Arkansas governor says he wouldn't support Trump in a 2024 run. So I guess he's on the Trump st list with Cheney, Kinzinger, Sasse etc.
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/21/gop-arkan...
Seems Nikki Hailey and other Republicans are still managing to get donors despite their anti-trump stance, although the battles will be tough: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/21/re...
And poor old Ted "Fled" Cruz is still getting st on twitter after staging a rather obvious photo op and breaking covid siolation guidelines while doing so. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/...
Not sure he'll ever escape the wrath of Texans and others. I read a comment elsewhere suggesting that he might want to be careful where he goes as there a lot of angry people out there still.

Apparently they are now calling him "Flyin' Ted" In case anyone is not aware: in 2016 Trump called Ted Cruz "Lyin Ted", and irony aside, the name stuck

The impeachment trial has proven that he had absolutely nothing to do with
Methinks you don't understand the difference between impeachment (a political process), and moral or legal culpability. Unless if course you're being sarcastic.Apologies for the lack of Smileys, the World could always use more Smileys. I've been a part of the problem, here's a little of the solution

Didn't mention that it wasn't his fault CV-19 ran riot through the White house or his rallys, it was the coffee boys who didn't take precautions and gave it to the best president ever, who insisted on being a guinea pig for the nation to test all those experimental drugs, whilst not handing over to Pence.
Didn't mention it was his god given right as the best potus ever to procreate with as many women as he wished, for the good of the nation, especially if they looked like Ivanka.
Nor mentions that any of the fraud/tax evasion/ethics complaint charges he's facing were just normal business deals. That included any moneys foreign governments paid to him via his hotels, or foreign bank accounts. He can't help it if people want to give him money...
Some of former President Donald Trump’s most high profile hospitality assets took a revenue hit last year as COVID lockdowns hurt business, according to a financial disclosure filed on Wednesday, his final day in office.
For example, the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., brought in $15.1 million in revenue in 2020 and the first three weeks of 2021, according to Trump’s disclosure. That is down 62.7% from 2019, according to his 2019 disclosure.
The circumstances were similar at Trump property in Las Vegas, which saw revenues decline 60.5% to $9.2 million and at his Florida golf course, Trump National Doral, revenue down 42.7% to $44.2 million.
A rare bright spot was Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, where he is expected to spend most of his time post presidency. Revenue at that property, which Trump frequently used to host political allies and foreign dignitaries, climbed 13% year-on-year to reach $24.2 million.

If that was his only worry
The Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr., is proceeding with the criminal case against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. He is looking for the differences between the various real estate valuations claimed in lending documents and the value claimed in tax documents and insurance documents. Cy Vance is also reviewing the capital improvement items and subpoenaed the engineer for the Seven Springs estate. A difference in revenue or expenses or valuation could prove fraud, and the subpoena was fairly specific.
Michael Cohen has alleged that the Trump Organization has inflated assets when seeking loans and deflated them when it came time to pay taxes. The Supreme Court has not made a decision on whether Trump’s accounting firm must turn over financial documents. But now that Trump is not President, the Supreme Court should make a ruling soon. A grand jury has already subpoenaed these records.
There is also a civil case proceeding with the New York Attorney General, Letitia James. A judge has recently ruled that more documents need to be turned over to the NY Attorney General because they are not protected by laws on attorney-client privilege. Judge Engoron looked through the documents and determined which must be turned over by February 4.

A leader in an alleged Oath Keepers conspiracy in the Capitol riot claims she was given a VIP pass to the pro-Trump rally, had met with Secret Service agents and was providing security for legislators and others, including in their march to the Capitol.
Attorneys for Ohio Oath Keeper Jessica Watkins detail how the efforts among paramilitants who are now accused of conspiracy on January 6 were closer to the apparatus around then-President Donald Trump and his rally than was previously known.
By sharing the new details in the filing Saturday, the defense attorney for Watkins, a former Army ranger who served in Afghanistan, argues for her release from jail on bond and other restrictions as she awaits trial.
"On January 5 and 6, Ms. Watkins was present not as an insurrectionist, but to provide security to the speakers at the rally, to provide escort for the legislators and others to march to the Capitol as directed by the then-President, and to safely escort protestors away from the Capitol to their vehicles and cars at the conclusion of the protest," the court filing said on Saturday. "She was given a VIP pass to the rally. She met with Secret Service agents. She was within 50 feet of the stage during the rally to provide security for the speakers. At the time the Capitol was breached, she was still at the site of the initial rally where she had provided security."
The US Secret Service, in response to Watkins' claims in the Saturday filing, denied that private citizens were working with the Secret Service to provide security on January 6.
"To carry out its protective functions on January 6th, the U.S. Secret Service relied on the assistance of various government partners. Any assertion that the Secret Service employed private citizens to perform those functions is false," a US Secret Service spokesperson said in a statement to CNN on Sunday.
Watkins' defense attorney, Michelle Peterson, wrote on Saturday that her client and other supporters of Trump had believed the then-President would invoke the Insurrection Act to use the military to overturn what he falsely said was the fraudulent election of Joe Biden. And Watkins and others believed "they would have a role if this were to happen," the filing said.
"However misguided, her intentions were not in any way related to an intention to overthrow the government, but to support what she believed to be the lawful government. She took an oath to support the Constitution and had no intention of violating that oath or of committing any violent acts."

Dr. Anthony Fauci continues to open up about his experiences working under the Trump administration, revealing the moment he began to lose influence with former President Donald Trump.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Telegraph, the infectious disease specialist recalled a marked shift in his professional relationship with Trump in April or May of last year, once the president began to publicly side with anti-lockdown protesters and back states’ efforts to lift stay-at-home orders.
“My influence with [Trump] diminished when he decided to essentially act like there was no outbreak and focus on re-election and opening the economy,” Fauci, who is now serving as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, recalled Friday. “That’s when he said, “It’s going to go away, it’s magical, don’t worry about it.”’
Immediately thereafter, he added, “my direct influence on him was negligible. It became more conflictual than productive.”

Mark Zuckerberg intervened to reduce penalties for Alex Jones and Infowars. His decision weakened FB's policies and prevented it from acting earlier against right wing groups like the Oath Keepers that stormed the Capitol
This story dives deep into how important content moderation/enforcement decisions get made at FB. It reveals how Facebook's powerful policy team, led by Joel Kaplan, repeatedly went against the company's own experts to intervene on changes for fears of conservative backlash.

Zuckerberg’s “more nuanced policy” set off a cascading effect, the two former employees said, which delayed the company’s efforts to remove right wing militant organizations such as the Oath Keepers, which were involved the Jan. 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. It is also a case study in Facebook’s willingness to change its rules to placate America’s right wing and avoid political backlash.

A former North Miami Beach police officer has been arrested for entering the U.S. Capitol building during the Jan. 6 insurrection seeking to prevent Congress from certifying the presidential election results, according to records unsealed in federal court Sunday.
Nicholes Lentz, 41, was arrested Friday and charged in a criminal complaint with entering a restricted building or grounds and disruptive and disorderly conduct on restricted grounds.
An FBI affidavit in support of the arrest cites a video clip Lentz posted on Facebook live from inside the Capitol, in which he says: “America has spoken. You can not stop millions of people.”

Former White House adviser Larry Kudlow suggested over the weekend that massive power outages in Texas are "the consequences" of electing President Joe Biden, who has only been in office a month.
During an interview on Sunday, Kudlow spoke to Fox News host Howard Kurtz about his new Fox Business program.
"I think they've moved very rapidly toward the progressive left position on a lot of these issues," Kudlow said of the Biden administration. "He tried to temper it with talk about unity. There was some talk about moving to the center, that there would be more balance, there wouldn't be a far-left progressive agenda."
"Unfortunately in the early weeks -- what, we've got a month here -- it has been a left, progressive agenda," he continued. "He's gone after the energy sector. You saw some of the consequences in Texas. That's just the tip of the iceberg."
Kudlow did not immediately explain what Biden had done to cause the power outages.
