It turns out the recording between Donald Trump and state investigator Frances Watson was discovered in the trash folder of the state investigator’s computer. The Georgia Secretary of State’s office recently discovered the recording as a result of a public records request.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis sent letters to Georgia state officials in February, asking the Georgia Secretary of State’s office to preserve documents relevant to election interference. Fani Willis is conducting a criminal investigation into Trump’s interference in the 2020 election results. The secretary of state’s office is separately investigating Trump for his attempts to overturn the state’s election results.

The investigator told CNN affiliate WSB-TV’s investigative reporter Mark Winne that she had recorded the call. She stated that she didn’t perceive any pressure from Trump to take action to change the results of the election. The recording does indicate that Trump suggested that she would benefit from finding votes to change the results of the election, that “we” could win Georgia if she changed the results and after the event she decided to delete the recording?

Officials in the Georgia Secretary of State's Office located a recently released recording of former President Donald Trump's call to a state investigator in a trash folder on her device, a state official familiar with the situation confirmed to CNN.

The discovery of the call comes after state officials originally told CNN that they did not think audio of the call existed. The call added to the examples of Trump's extraordinary efforts to push false claims of widespread voter fraud and influence Georgia election officials as they certified the state's election results.

The audio file of the December 23 call between the former President and investigator Frances Watson was discovered as the Georgia Secretary of State's Office responded to a public records request. The personal familiar spoke with CNN on the condition of anonymity to describe the internal process.

The Washington Post first reported the details of how the audio of the December phone call emerged.
Watson declined comment to CNN through the Georgia Secretary of State's press secretary.

Trump in the December call had encouraged Watson to look to uncover "dishonesty" in her signature checks for absentee ballots in Fulton County, the most populous county in state and the one that houses most of Atlanta.
"But if you go back two years, and if you can get to Fulton, you are going to find things that are going to be unbelievable," the former President said. "The dishonesty that we've heard from. But Fulton is the mother lode."
Later on the phone call, Trump told Watson that he hoped "we" could win Georgia and that "you have the most important job in the country right now."

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has won her first Grammy Award, claiming victory on Sunday in the Best Spoken Word Album category.

The pundit received the award for the audiobook version of her 2019 book “Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth,” which explores the impact and influence of fossil fuel companies in world governments, particularly those connected to Russia’s prime minister, Vladimir Putin.

are people genuniely stupid enough to think that clicking "delete file" is all you need to do to erase that file completely? Or perhaps, this was a deleberate act, ie "yes sir, i have deleted the incriminating file from my computer" and knowing full well it was still sat their ready and waiting to be found?

Yes.

They're also dumb enough not to know about the backups being kept.

Or that even if you delete something permentently in the OS you can still recover it as all you've done is delete the pointer to the data, said data is still on the disk until overwritten.

Proper secure destruction of data requires multiple passes with a DOD standard wiping tool (I.E. DBAN) and then taking the physical drive out back to work it over with the oxy torch for good measure (erm... Maybe I just enjoy doing that last bit).

Blancco is now the acceptable product, being able to do multiple standards, with hardware and software based wipes. I'm not sure Dban is acceptable anymore. What people don't realise is the hours it takes to wipe disks correctly, and then they have to be shredded by an authorised company.

Still doesn't get away from an official thinking she's deleting evidence...

A Navy security contractor was arrested for rioting at the Capitol. Since then, investigators interviewed *44* of his colleagues and found he was widely known as a white supremacist, often expressed Jew hatred and even wore a Hitler mustache to work.

A U.S. Army reservist who participated in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was widely known as a white supremacist and regularly discussed his hatred of Jews while working at a New Jersey-based naval facility, according to new evidence revealed by federal prosecutors late Friday.

The reservist, Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, who worked as a security contractor at Naval Weapons Station Earle and held a secret-level security clearance, was arrested and charged Jan. 15 for allegedly breaching the Capitol. At the time, prosecutors described him as an “avowed white supremacist” and Nazi sympathizer, a determination based in part on evidence provided by a confidential source to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and a YouTube channel in which Hale-Cusanelli expressed those views.

Questions have to be asked about the US security vetting, how do these people get and then keep their clearance?
Erm....what didn't they know? Seen the photo of the guy?

An Army reservist charged with storming the US Capitol was a well-known White supremacist and Nazi sympathizer at the Navy base where he worked as a contractor, and was even rebuked for sporting a distinctive "Hitler mustache," prosecutors said in new court filings.

Federal prosecutors revealed Friday that the Navy conducted its own internal investigation into Timothy Hale-Cusanelli that uncovered numerous incidents where he promoted racist and sexist views. The Naval Criminal Investigation Service interviewed 44 of his colleagues and 34 of them said he held "extremist or radical views pertaining to the Jewish people, minorities and women."

The Biden administration is expected to announce sanctions related to election interference as soon as next week. The sanctions are expected to target multiple countries including Russia, China and Iran

The US intelligence community said in a landmark report Tuesday that the Russian government meddled in the 2020 election with an influence campaign "denigrating" President Joe Biden and "supporting" former President Donald Trump, detailing a massive disinformation push that successfully targeted, and was openly embraced, by Trump's allies.

Russia's objectives were not limited to hurting Biden's candidacy and aiding Trump's reelection bid, the report says, as US intelligence found that Moscow also sought to undermine "public confidence in the electoral process and exacerbate sociopolitical divisions in the US."

Overall, the report released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence provides the most comprehensive assessment of foreign threats to the 2020 elections to date, detailing extensive influence operations by US adversaries, including Russia and Iran, that sought to undermine confidence in the democratic process, in addition to targeting specific presidential candidates.

It also confirms what was largely assumed, and barely hidden, last year: Trump and his closest allies publicly embraced Russia's disinformation campaign against Biden, met with Kremlin-linked figures who were part of the effort, and promoted their conspiracy theories.
The report said the most aggressive foreign attempt to "undercut" Trump came from Iran, but Iran didn't "actively" promote Biden, and their efforts were smaller than the Russian operation.

Trump Tower staff were reportedly vaccinated under a Chicago program intended to immunize communities of color hardest hit by COVID.

The city health department is "looking into" the vaccination event at Trump Tower, saying staff aren't yet eligible.

Trump Tower vaccinated its staff members against coronavirus — and the city’s health department is investigating what happened.

A vaccination provider came to the luxury tower — which serves condo residents and hotel guests — last week to vaccinate staff through an event organized by tower management, multiple sources told Block Club. Hotel and tower residence staff members are not eligible to be vaccinated yet — and while a Trump Tower official said the event was done under the city’s Protect Chicago Plus campaign, Chicago Department of Public Health leaders said they aren’t aware of any such vaccination event happening at the tower.

The Protect Chicago Plus campaign is meant to target residents of 15 community areas on the city’s South and West sides hit hard by COVID-19. The Downtown area, where Trump Tower is located, is not among them.

A Department of Public Health spokesman said they’ve reached out to Trump Tower to find out how the vaccination event occurred.

The vaccination event at the Downtown tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., comes as many in Chicago who are eligible to be vaccinated and most at risk from COVID-19 are still struggling to find an appointment and get their shots.

“… We’re looking into it,” the spokesman said. ” … I will say the Protect Chicago Plus program is intended for those designated communities, so we will be looking to find out what happened.”

Army Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman is set to be promoted to full colonel, despite attempts by loyalists to former President Donald Trump to derail his career following his bit role in the president's first impeachment, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Vindman’s twin brother, Alex Vindman, was a star witness in Trump’s impeachment trial and accused the president of pressuring the Ukrainian president to dig up dirt on then-candidate Joe Biden. Alex Vindman chose to retire from the military last July as a lieutenant colonel after what he called “a campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation” and is now writing a memoir and getting a doctorate.

But Yevgeny “Eugene” Vindman, who was the senior ethics official at the National Security Council and its deputy legal adviser from July 2018 to February 2020, has stayed in the military. Both brothers were fired from the NSC a year ago by Trump, escorted out of the White House and sent back to the Pentagon.

Yevgeny Vindman is now on a list of colonel promotions that has been approved by the White House and is going to the Senate for formal confirmation, according to the two people familiar with the matter. The list has recently circulated through senior leadership in the Army and is expected to be publicly released on Tuesday.
