If they have managed to track this Manaus variant to a few hundred people via the test batch numbers where did the patient get the test in the first place?
Presumably a home PCR kit?
Yeah and how did it get to their home?! Nurses etc who are given them in bulk have tests which also generate a result at home.
I think they traced the kit batch to a door-to-door mass testing sample: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56254979

At least that's how I assume they've narrowed it down to 1 of 379 households...

Politeness, don't want the hassle etc.
To be honest that's why I go along with it, I CBA with the hassle. I don't dispute a proper medical grade mask worn properly etc helps, but I am not convinced something thrown together out of rags one has lying around does any good whatsoever.

That Hugo Talks video that I posted a couple of days ago on the Los Angeles schools requiring constant testing to get a bar code / permit to go to school, which was taken down in under an hour rolleyes is being hosted on brandnewtube instead:

Removed because he mentioned Bill Gates / Microsoft involvement, maybe?

Victoria decides to retain its 'state of emergency' and all the associated powers it grants them, including instant lockdowns (who would have expected that...?)

Business owners point out it would be nice to have some semblance of business-as-usual and ability to remain confident about being open before, er, December...:

Gawd, the facebook karens are out in force again with the "people breaking the rules are ruining it for everyone". It's like they can see the end coming, and are fighting a desperate rearguard action to hang on to lockdown as long as possible. "I'm a nurse and have to travel to work, everyone should stay at home to make my commute easier".
Some people are in for a very big shock this summer. I bet they'll still be moaning about it next year.
In for a shock this Summer? They'd be in for a shock if they went to any moderately sized town centre on a bright, warm weekend day currently. I live in throwing distance to a 'pretty' market town on a prominent river with a population of circa 20,000. It's gone from 28 Days Later to looking 90% normal in the last fortnight. Tide has well and truly turned.
Oh sure, but right now they can moan about "idiots not following the rules". When the rules are relaxed they're going to find their whole world collapsing around them.

Bavaria mandated N95 masks.
If it is clear proper masks work how do we explain this graph. If they work so well surely we should see a material difference in infections.
Do you have a link to the source for this?

It's useful to have because I'm sure this will be totally buried or ignored by the media.

+1

I use one of my kids nerf gun bandanas as a snood.

I get some looks, I smile back, but no reaction.

But then it will be selfish anti-vax morons who refuse to get jabbed with experimental genetic engineering in a nanotechnology carrier that's still under test, and who refuse to have a 'vaccine passport' to get into Costa coffee...

Adventure Island UK which I believe is in Southend on Sea has told talkradio that they will not require staff to have the covid vaccine. Your body, your choice is what they have said.

I'm glad that this is happening. Common sense may yet prevail.
That shouldn't have to be an exception to the rule. It's only 1 firm who have said they are mandating it so far...
Indeed but the way things have been progressing with the "vaccine everyone brigade" we need more people to go against that narrative.
Well this really hinges on vaccine passports, so many businesses will sadly sign up to such a policy when there is a means to enforce is. Which is why that must never happen

We really need to start asking companies to state their intentions now - pressure from those against the madness might help in decision making...

This.
I would like to think I have a reasonably high IQ. I have a masters degree & have a great deal of experience with risk assessment, ride motorcycles, smoke, drive too fast, enjoy power boats, etc, blah blah. The whole mask thing is utterly ridiculous.

My feeling is that masks are a placebo. They remind everybody the pandemic is still in full swing and comfort the wet blankets enough to get them out the house.

Surely there must be some kind of Marshall Plan to get us out of this? 1000 year debt locked up in the Federal Reserve/Bank of England so it becomes worthless eventually???
Could we actually be fked from the economic fallout rather than the virus?

And BBC still showing hospital scenes with someone saying they are still at max capacity, and then some bloke who is recovering telling us it is till very real and he was fit but felt like he was drowning whilst people around him died.....we should defund the BBC completely

I am pretty sure some people will end up having had two years on furlough before this finally shakes out.

Whether they'll actually be capable of working again after that will be interesting!

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/coronavir...

Probably about 5 million on furlough at the moment, with a minimum figure of 2.4 million just before that last minute extension in the autumn.
