Small profits (under £50,000) Corporation Tax stays at 19%.

Profits over £250,000 it goes up to 25%.

Marginal rates will apply on a sliding scale between £50,000 and £250,000 (just like the old days).
Nobody is going to be calling Magic Rishi a friend of the corporates anymore!

no changes in personal taxes, no change in VAT, small businesses at lowest corp tax rate, big business gets all the shafting, 130% of capital spending deductible from EBITDA..

Goldman Sachs has taught this boy well! you have to be absolutely raving mad to try and critique this move and hold water.
Yup. I am done with the Tories. 5 figure tax increase for me in 2023.
What industry out of interest?

What act of wondrous kindness would you expect from Starmer with Corbyn's ghost not exorcised?

Their last manifesto (2019) had corporation tax increasing to 26%.with small profits at 21%, presumably you prefer that to 25% and 19% since atm it's the only realistic alternative.

You think labour (anti business) or Libs would reduce that? Come on now.

Why would the old and sick be killed off? If they were isolating they would be in no more real danger.

You are aware that there are also a large number of older people who themselves didn't want to be locked up in their own homes, nor be able to see their grandchildren etc?
You are in a minority. The vast number of people - old and young - feel that lock down was right and proper and something that was necessary.

If the vast bulk of people were wandering about ASSUMING they were healthy, the death toll would have been incredible - and the NHS would have collapsed.

Maybe that's what people like you want. Of course, you all assume that you personally won't be affected by these illnesses.

Disgraceful, and selfish.
I expect better of you Eric than to make assumptions about my personal circumstances and how this has or has not impacted on me personally.

I'd say it's rather disgraceful and selfish of you to disregard the impact these lockdowns have had on the mental health of far too many young people of this country.

Death toll would have been incredible? Really? Thought we were all now aware that the virus was non lethal in 99.x% of people who were infected.

As for the collapse of the NHS, it's going to collapse every winter yet nothing is ever done about it.

Guess we are just going to disagree on this one beer

Agreed. There are plenty of places to discuss the wider aspects of CV-19, please let's not clog this thread too. smile

Anyway, i think considering what could have happened, i think this budget has addressed all the concerns that everyone had.
I'm still very concerned about the property bubble which they keep inflating + all the money they're throwing around with no plan on recouping it.

Companies are going to get out of the UK in the next 2 years and tax payers will be left with higher income tax, capital gains, inheritance tax etc.

Then we can spend the next 4 years listening to Labour telling us how the Tories got them into the mess of a lifetime of debt.

As far as i'm concerned, this is a disaster and I voted for this government.

Stop boasting.
Not boasting - just making clear my position. Populist government makes a complete mess of covid response on any view and now wants a small sub-set of society to pay. Politically expedient, but it also means that salary plus div approach to remuneration will see business owners pay more in tax than the self employed and employees.

Cry me a river. A five figure tax increase would indicate a 6 figure income (at least). Must be tough. cry

Swings and roundabouts.

I'm sure the good times will come back for people in your position some day.

By and large, you will probably have had a good innings up to now.

I actually don't care anymore. The Tories assume that there is no one else to vote for and it does not matter how impacted people are they will continue to vote for them. Not this time.
