Increases in income tax and VAT and fuel duty. Why is it down to business to pay for this mess?
What increase in fuel duty?
Chap obviously wasn't listening. hehe
I don't think he's having a good day!
It’s a very expensive day for him don’t you know

What increase in fuel duty? He’s cancelled the planned increase.
He’s extended by a year the hospitality Vat cut 6m 5% rest of time 12%. Taxes

Income tax isn’t increased but tiers are frozen - so if you don’t get a pay rise for 5 years you’ll pay no more tax. If you do get a pay rise then you’ll lose out on inflation change to the lower threshold.
He was saying that's what they should have targeted rather than corporation tax.

Think he was suggesting the first 3 as an alternative.

At first (when he became leader) he looked like he could maybe sway me, but the more he speaks the less he says.

Those newly established self employed people who missed out in the Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) will now be able to claim the final two grants (small consolation in my view).
I wonder if I will now qualify?

Although I started my small business 20 years ago, 2019/20 was the first year where my income from self-employment exceeded my income from PAYE employment and early retirement pension.

I gave up my PAYE job in October 2018, and went self-employed full time.

In 2019/20, my self-employment profit was 55% of my total income, with pension income making up the remaining 45%.

So far, I've received nothing at all from the government.

You'll be in the minority, so in this budget you are collateral damage? No idea what business you are in but there is a chance your revenue will benefit from his moves, or rather harsher income taxes etc might have impacted negatively your revenue, if not yours directly then lots of others in your predicament.

I'm not saying it's fair but in the cold light of day it means you delaying buying "x" for a year or not doing "y", it feels bad but you are going to be ok aren't you, like I say collateral damage. Pretty sure they'll relax/reduce it down as soon as they can (pre election May 24!) to get you back on side.....

I apologise for contributing to that thread however, I totally disagree that it's a bad budget for business.

Agreed. Bleating on about pay rises for the NHS and claiming that would "fix the foundations of our society". Vague references to inequality. Oh and of course complaining that the government isn't green enough.
And increasing sick pay? Yeah, really crucial point there, Sir Keir.
Sir Keir Starmer's main skill is in missing the bigger picture; well, that and making his party appear somewhat irrelevant.

Also I'd argue no company can really gripe too much if they've received furlough funds.........at least until the extra tax they end up paying exceeds the amount received?

It's just politics and one of those things as you say. I am absolutely fine and will be in the future. No one cares about business paying more tax. Until it affects them...
