Having worked in the Trade and Investment Department at the time he was the "Ambassador to Trade", I presume this is Andy.
It would be indiscreet of me to name names .... but There was criticism of Phil in the canteen, and one PC reckoned that the Queen shouldn't have married him. A female PC, a WPC as was, said, 'She married for love.' The PC said, 'She was paid to marry someone who'd be useful to us, like a German or [racial term for French nationals] and most nodded in agreement.
When Di first visited the City, I was on duty by at an adjacent division. I made my way over and infiltrated through the crowd. The Inspector, one Mad Max Maclain, caught me, shook his head, and said, 'You go stand with the other rubber-neckers.' There was a group of PCs in one corner, all come to watch, some who tried to put over the image of big, hard man. Great fun. She was in that low cut dress I think, but as she emerged from the car, the place lit up like an explosion by the press, so I can't be sure. Chas was there, and he didn't even merit a flash bulb.

Called that one wrong. If he were close to the end, he would surely be at Windsor Castle where a hospice type facility could be very easily set up and staffed so that he could slip away at home and where it would be much easier for family to come and say their goodbyes away from the press

Let’s not forget that Philip, a member of the Greek Royal family was a decorated War hero who was mentioned in dispatches during the battle of Matapan, served in the Royal Navy in the Med, took part in the invasion of Sicily and then went to the Far East to fight the Japs
He’s one of the few WW2 veterans left, a career Naval officer who gave up his career for his wife who he has supported for decades
I for one, which him a speedy recovery
You can’t say ‘Japs’’ anymore. Who do you think you are, Prince Philip? He’s one of the few WW2 veterans left, a career Naval officer who gave up his career for his wife who he has supported for decades

A colleague of mine was witness to Phil getting his 'witty' comments turned back on him. He was visiting a council department where she was working at the time. He asked someone where they lived, and was given the name of a local town. "That's a bit of a dump isn't it?", said Phil. "Well, we can't all live in grace and favour houses" came the retort, at which point the entourage was promptly moved along to its next port of call.

Oh, he's a 'card' isn't he The trouble is his deeply offensive comments have long been brushed over as 'gaffes' because 'he's just a funny old sort'. Prince Philip is to the UK what Donald Trump is to the US, an individual who doesn't, and cannot hide their views. Where others, even if they have these outdated tones have learnt to either keep them to themselves or evolve into a better person. Anyone else would be held up as an out and out racist and misogynist, but...it's just 'dear ol' Phil'. I would say it was a huge relief to everyone at the palace when he scaled back public duties? That's why, I would suggest not much interest and not a huge thread on the man.

Called that one wrong. There is a different vibe to this hospital admission. Charlie and Billy have gone in to see him, and I'd like to think the hospital is correct in saying that visitors are allowed under exceptional circumstances, and that end of life is the reason and not the fact they're the royal family.
It'd be exceptional for a royal to be in the QE in Birmingham, not so with a hospital used to royalty.

I rather think it's you that's out of touch. That's why, I would suggest not much interest and not a huge thread on the man.
You may speak for a vocal minority, but most accept that he's the 'product' of an earlier age, when things were unimaginably different to now. You are free to disagree with him and even abhor some of his views and opinions.
Trump on the other hand, is an arse.

Old person goes to hospital quite a bit after he's had the jag, so not Covid therefore not newsworthy.
The fact that Charles has gone to see him suggests this is terminal, bit of a shame.
That did cross my mind too. The fact that Charles has gone to see him suggests this is terminal, bit of a shame.

Agreed. Phil for all his “faults” I suspect is probably quite humble deep down. Trump otoh. Sounds like press making a mountain out of nothing.
He was probably just tired or something.

Totally agree on Trump, he's an awful man. As for a 'product' of an earlier age, that's just a lame excuse. In a position like that, with let's face it nothing else to do but to study people, you would think a mind would evolve. It's just an excuse for what it is. Everyone else in this day and age is held to personal account, seemingly not the Royals....although he is not the biggest issue they have really You may speak for a vocal minority, but most accept that he's the 'product' of an earlier age, when things were unimaginably different to now.
