My guess is bad night's sleep + painkillers for recent surgery + quiet car = fell asleep at the wheel.
Or he could just be a poor driver of cars. So many theories. Let’s start a poll.

Police say he showed no signs of impairment and no blood test was taken.

They also observed that the distance from the start to the end of the accident was consistent with excess speed, and that many accidents happen here.

Excess speed into a bend is my guess.

Most likely, he's not the world's greatest driver, and especially being a 'freebie' car he was using for the duration of this tournament that he may have been not on a par with knowing too well biggrin (couldn't not chip in with that laugh)

Your average joe would have a blood test done in those circumstances, especially with form for dui.

He is lucky he wasnt in a RHD car based on the damage to that front side area.

Yes, I think that is a you problem.

He has a broken leg and is otherwise fine.

A horrible accident, but far from requiring grave and subdued posting...
Knob.

Injuries are more serious than that. I think you are failing to see beyond the obvious. . . .

I was thinking that too. Also in respect to his career, he isn't particularly old for a golfer, and anyway how fit do golfers really need to be? It's not like he's lost a yard or so of pace is it?

I didn’t realise that Genesis is Hyundai’s upmarket brand in the USA. I searched for the safety ratings on the car - seemingly it is “too new” to the market to have been tested yet.

Surely all new cars need to be crashed into a wall before certification and release to sale ?

I don’t see why people who are clearly so ignorant of the subject feel compelled to post in order to draw attention to the fact that that are so ignorant of the subject! It’s a ‘look at me, I know nothing about golf but I thought I’d add to the discussion by leaving you all in no doubt.’

Judging by the reports now emerging I suspect he’s finished, such a sad way to sign off given his incredible come back two years ago.

Long recovery from this.
Nasty damage to the lower part of his right leg by the sounds of it.

Certainly an internal fixator (metal bar to join the bone back together), not sure if an external one would be required at some point too.

Hopefully there will be a road back from this, albeit a long one.
I wouldn't be writing his career off just yet, look at the injuries Mick Doohan and Ian Hutchinson sustained and they made it back to the very top.

If he has the motivation to win again he will.

That was my initial thought. A bit like saying driving a racing car doesn’t require much effort as you’re sitting down rofl

Compare either golf or racing cars to bike racing, where broken legs are a common injury and which is much more physically demanding. Bike racers don't sit on a bike, they are constantly moving around put weight and flex on their joints. I once saw a MotoGP rider (Cal Crutchlow) come from the back of the grid to finish 6th (I think) having broken his leg in practice earlier that weekend. I think Ian Hutchinson and Mick Doohan both used hand actuated rear brake levers because their feet/legs were so badly mangled from big crash damage.

Can you see in context that some people are being a little bit melodramatic?

Or more specifically, Ben Hogan. Was in a head on with a Greyhound bus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Hogan#Career-thr...

Well, this is the worst marketing Genesis could ever have had for their car, that it has left him with a smashed up leg whilst wearing a seatbelt and the car doesn't look THAT badly deformed.

Plenty people have walked away from far worse crashes.
