I’ve just popped into the local Sainsbury’s and there was a pretty young thing at the checkout in front of me.

At first I wondered what the marks on her face were before realising that they were really badly done large tattoos all over her forehead, her temples and down her cheeks.

Similarly, there is a mother of a child at my daughters school. Not my usual cup of tea, (a bit barbie girl), but pretty enough. She has what looks to be home made tattoos all over her face, and what I think is supposed to be a large rat on one of her cheeks.

If someone wants a tattoo, that’s up to them. But I’m left wondering what possesses an other pretty young lady to have crappily done tattoos on their faces? It’s not like they can be easily covered up.

Or am I just getting old confused

If someone came up with a reliable way of removing tattoos permanently it'd be a gold mine in a few years.

They are very fashionable right now but the regret will be strong.

This is in Bridgwater Somerset, a more apt name is hard to imagine!

If they like it, I don't see the problem really.

Personal choice and all that sort of thing.

The world would be a boring place if we all looked the same. I've seen quite a few music artists with face tattoos now (Have you seen Rag n Bone man recently?).

I used to see a little old lady sometimes in Bristol. Looked completely normal apart from a tattoo of a swallow on one cheek - of her face before anyone asks laugh

Why not?

I don't know what you drive, but if it cost more than a grand they might well look at your car and think "why?"

Because they want to.

People express themselves in their appearance in multiple ways. It’s not really any of your business.

Facial tattoos pretty much remove you from the mainstream job market for one thing........

I have ink, but I can hide all mine.

We have a guy in the warehouse at work, about 55/56ish, face covered in utter garbage ink, almost like school tatts.
I would imagine getting any other wotk would be nigh on impossible.

Very bizarre to think people wake up and think, ooh a tattoo on my face would really enhance my look.

They look ridiculous on someones face.

There is a tattoo shop in town and their front man if you like has almost his entire head covered in ink. He's actually quite a nice guy, bit simple but he is genuinely a nice guy and he earns a few bob to keep himself going.

Not for me, i have a half sleeve but as i work in customer facing role i need to be able to hide it.

IMO, if someone wants a tattoo, that’s up to them. It’s up to them if they want that tattoo on their arms, on their arse or on their face. Their body, their choice.

The point that I was trying to make was, why?

Neither of these two women had what could be considered by any stretch of the imagination to be nice looking face tattoos, (they looked like a child had scribbled on their faces), although I appreciate that the aesthetics of something are subjective, but I struggle to believe that they could have looked at their face tattoos and thought, “yeah, I look amazing !”

They must know that they’ve drastically reduced their opportunities in both the job market and the dating game, which still begs the question, ‘why?’

Self loathing? Self harm? Some sort of a mental illness?

I’m genuinely confused as to why these otherwise pretty young ladies would do this?

As wrong as it is, I suspect I would have difficulty doing my job if I had a face tattoo.
I am yet to see one that I think "oh that looks nicer than if you did not". But the bottom line is people are free to choose.

Sometimes people just make daft choices, which seem like a good idea at the time. I had my favourite 'brand'of ecstasy tattooed on my neck, at 17 it seemed like a brilliant idea, but obviously it wasn't laugh

My OH has a couple of tattoo's, but in places no-one see's them. Even I only see them once or twice a year lol. Had them when she was 18-19 and absolutely regrets it now and that's with no-one seeing them!

it would be interesting to know the theories why anyone would mar a perfectly pleasing face with tattoos.

Yep, I totally agree. If it’s not agains the law and it isn’t hurting anyone, folk can do whatever the hell they like.

That wasn’t the gist of my post though. I’m more wondering why these girls would actually do this and think it’s a great idea?

I’m not singling you out here Jas. Several other posters have made similar comments to yours. It’s just that yours was the most recent of these comments.

Pretty faces, not very pretty minds, is my best guess.

Sadly I don’t think I’ve come across anyone with a face tattoo who isn’t mentally unwell.

Often seem troubled types, but then I’m sure some are normal ish!

You should probably ask the pretty young women rather than a site full of middle-aged men smile

My other half, who is a therapist would probably say that a significant proportion would be deliberately disfiguring their faces to try and make themselves more unnattractive to the sort of people that did them harm when they were younger. But if you asked them they obviously would not give that as an answer.

Personally (and I know it's none of my business) I think it's really sad and on a par with women who decide they have to pump their lips up like a goldfish.

Pretty much nails it I would suggest.......
