I’m still hacked off that Marathon got changed to snickers.
Right with you there. Marathon was a brilliant name. Snickers is meaningless foreign nonsense.I've got one in the car actually, which I'm now going to eat on my way to the

What has happened to blind auditions? Or is it just white people who cannot play black characters
My opinion are as follows.Gay people should be allowed to play straight people, and vice versa.
English people can play American people and vice versa.
But when it comes to race, and specifically accents, like Apu's, I think the roles should be offered to people from that background.
Is that confusing, hypocritical even? Possibly. I'm not perfect, that's just my thoughts at present. No doubt they'll change at some point.

You seem to think that all English people are white, what about English people who are Asian, Black, Chinese who can play.
Sorry if I over simplified it for you.I clearly don't actually think all English people are white.
I've posted my thoughts. If you disagree, great, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
But I'm not going to get dragged into an argument about it.
Cheers.

I can play an American - why ?
What other nationalities can i play ?
I can play a Gay role even though i am not Gay, and that is ok.
Could i play the role of a trans person ?
I cant voice a character who is not white, why not ?
We have a black actress playing Anne Boleyn, is that ok ?
I struggle with the acting one.
To me acting is simply pretending to be someone else. If the actor can convince the audience they are the person they are portraying, then that's the job done well. It shouldn't matter at all what the actor is in real life.
If actors aren't being cast for roles because of other biases against them, then that's the issue that needs to be addressed. The casting should hinge on whether or not they can portray the character they need to.

In todays world we can have a black actress playing an historic white person, yet imagine if a white actor was cast as MLK there would be uproar. To me acting is simply pretending to be someone else. Going to have a black actress playing the next 007, is that OK? I doubt that Fleming ever envisaged that turn of events.I can play an American - why ?

James Bond isn't a real person nor is the black actress playing a white character so does it matter ?
The argument as to why not works the other way as in why ??

How important to their story was the colour of the historic white person?
That's the key for me - I don't care about historical accuracy unless the character's race is relevant to the story. So having black actors in a drama in which everyone would have been white doesn't matter any more than the colour of their eyes or hair, but when the story is about race it becomes relevant.mrporsche said:

Because MLK was a race equality campaigner. Race is very much at the center of his story.Funny world we live in
How many historical white people are revered because they campaigned for racial equality? So what if Queen Victoria is played by someone that isn't white.
Equally, a man playing a suffragette would be absurd.

Pick a different famous black person
"The Carl Lewis Story"
The issue still stands you couldn't have a white person playing him.
Just as you cant have a white person voicing an asian cartoon character

And yet a white man voicing an asian cartoon character is wrong ?
