The face hugger in aliens was basically a mask.

Yet another thread smashing the stereotype of PHers being powerful company directors. The fragile milquetoast come out to brag about walking into their local corner shop with their faces exposed, eyes swivelling at the sheep. Stunning and brave. bowbiglaugh

From what I have read I believe that from 21st June (if all goes to plan) then all social distancing and other Covid "regulations" will be done and dusted.

I also heard someone from the government say, on national TV, that they hoped that wearing a mask on public transport would become the norm - presumably for ever.

I'd be interested in a non-representative sample of views from here - who's going to carry on wearing a mask in shops / pubs etc and who is going to ditch them ASAP.

What do we think companies will do after 21st June regarding insisting on masks - e.g. Easyjet, Supermarkets, Pubs - obviously this will have an impact on the question above.

If a pub insists on people wearing masks - do you think it will have more or fewer customers than a similar pub that doesn't enforce masks? (not 100% sure if that is correct English - more or less sounds like it should be correct, but less customers on it's own isn't right).
If it is no longer legal then I won't wear one, total waste of time and done more harm than good imho. I suspect they will still leave mask wearing in place though to alleviate the fears of the scared among us.

I won’t wear a mask after June, but I do think it would be sensible to encourage people who have a cold to wear one, as they do in Asia, as a courtesy to prevent the spread of viruses. That would be a good cultural import.

Masks likely do more harm than good. Speaking as a germophobe and prolific hand washer, I won't wear a mask.

I think in perfect clinically clean conditions, single use disposable masks may have a benefit, but in the real world people use masks again and again, pull the mask from their pocket to go shopping, touch door handles, money, goods etc, fiddle with mask, then back into dirty pocket. Next day, out it comes again. I really think it's likely to spread germs more so than help in any way.

Last year I watched people in restaurants put their mask on to leave their table and use the loo, touch door handles, tap handles etc, then sit down and take mask off and back into the pocket ready to take out again for when they walk out.

How they can't see what they are actually doing is remarkable, potentially wrapping germs around their face, but from my observations, it's very common. They simply wear a mask as they have been instructed with no further thoughts about it.
While your experiences and observations are valuable, I still think I'll follow what the scientists suggest.

There is no evidence to suggest, apart from anecdotes, that wearing masks does more harm than good.
Is there evidence to suggest they do good?
Apart from surgeons, doctors, nurses etc wearing them?
None of those are required to wear masks. Yes, not even surgeons.

Plus, they are worn for a different reason than what everyone is ordered to wear them in Tescos for. Akin to being ordered to wear shin pads to prevent injuries from falling masonary.

Incidentally (although I did catch covid eventually!), this winter has been the first in a while where I havent caught a cold at all, nor any cough or sore throat the whole of 2020/1.

Could be for one or many reasons, but I bet the health stats guys will be drooling over all sorts of 19-21 data for decades.

Agreed if we can encourage that to be normal behaviour it would be nice. However I do plan on burning some of my masks rather than washing them as soon as possible.

I drive alone wearing a mask for one of two reasons:

A) I'm driving to the shops. If I'm wearing it then I haven't forgotten it

B) I'm driving a customers car. I don't know about you but most of my customers would prefer it if their car didn't have a coating of Covid on it.

You do realise how mental that is?

If you've gotten to the point where you're putting the mask on before you go into your own car - surely that indicates that you haven't forgotten it, and you can stick it in your pocket until needed?

I mean, cool, each to their own but jeez that's a bit nuts!

Once it's on, it feels a bit pointless to take it off if I'm putting it back on in 5-10 minutes. It's not very pocket-able either as it has a plastic shell. It will fit at a push but then other people in the shop are wondering if I'm pleased to see them.

I find that I don't really give a monkey`s either way on this. Wearing a mask does not really bother me that much whilst the `current' restrictions are in place.
For example, there are some speed limits which I don't really agree with, but they are the law, and are what they are, and whilst they are in force, I feel obliged to conform to them (because I don't want a fine, or points on my license)
The idea of going to the shops but not being allowed in, because I forgot to take a mask with me, would be a pain in the derriere, having seen quite a few `NO mask NO entry' signs knocking about in the shops.

Flu numbers are also very low this year (partly high vaccination levels last year)

I might be missing something here.

Surgeons wear them to reduce the risk of infecting others (primarily their patients). That's the same reason why people in Tesco's have to wear them, isn't it?

Masks are worn in theatre to prevent bacterial, not viral infections being passed from clinician to patient.

Agreed.

Sadly I think quite a lot of people see "courtesy" as old fashioned or a sign of weakness. They think It's far better to brag about how "they don't give a toss and they'll do what you like" and not realise that people think they're a bit of a twunt.

There seems to be a lot of research that suggests they can reduce the spread of viral infections......

For me wearing a mask is not a natural state of affairs. therefore I will wear one, whilst I am being required to by the government / shops etcc, but as soon as I don't have to, I wont (unless perhaps when using the 7 on a cold day!)
