Who is going to continue to wear a mask after 21st June?
Discussion
I find it desperately sad that so many people find the wearing of masks to be "no big deal"
The wearing of masks as mandated, is hugely damaging to our social fabric. Seeing lips and facial expressions is a large and important part of how we communicate and interact with others.
We've lost sight of that - quite literally.

I only wear a mask now the bare minimum to comply with the law. I'm not going to lie and make up a spurious exemption reason to avoid a minor inconvenience.
As soon as the law changes such that they are not mandated in certain places such as shops I will stop wearing one. And if a business requires customers to wear a mask when not law, and another business is available, I'll be giving the latter my money.
The only thing I like to see persist out of it, is people choosing to wear a mask in public settings when they have a cold. But it should be that, a choice.

It'll be mid-summer so won't be wearing a cashmere or silk scarf as I do now in shops to avoid confrontation.
There will however be the same sickly looking people shuffling along in the street with their blue throwaway masks hanging off their chins as there are now.
Hated the whole 'mask' thing, surprised more people didn't just cover their nose and mouth with a scarf. Now 'masks' will always be a thing.

As a glasses wearer I can't wait for masks to f off. I've basically stopped going in shops not due to covid risk but because my glasses fog up instantly when I put a mask on, can't take glasses off as I'm really short sighted.
Does make me laugh when I'm out cycling and you'll be miles away from anywhere in the countryside and you see people walking along wearing masks. Nutters.

Per the social norm of most of SE Asia and makes perfect sense. Also workplaces sending people home when they have a severe cold. "I've never had a day off with a cold"
No, but you have brought half the team down by coming in with your cold.
Everyone I see fiddles with their mask and then touches everything else, so I'd say masks are a net zero benefit.
For every droplet they catch from a lurgy person, another person is spreading the lurgy around because of them.
And no I don't believe we should learn how to use them better, because people won't, just like people don't follow lockdown etc.
Finally, give it another year and discarded masks will be the bane of littering and water course pollution.
You have an immune system for a reason. If you're that ill, stay at home if you want to avoid spreading it. Or take the new annual 'cold' vaccine, which I'm sure will appear now we have effective coronavirus vaccines.

I've seen people cycling in the middle of nowhere with masks on. I'm mainly impressed at their lung function.Does make me laugh when I'm out cycling and you'll be miles away from anywhere in the countryside and you see people walking along wearing masks. Nutters.
I wear a mask in shops and my local coffee shop, and have worn them whilst viewing homes to buy but as soon as the requirement is dropped I won't be wearing one. I expect the few people who wear masks whilst out on their walk in the fresh air will still wear their masks once the requirement is dropped...
The concierge at my block of flats wears one whilst walking to work in the fresh air, but as soon as he arrives he removes it and sits in his confined office all day long talking to residents, delivery drivers, trades people etc coming and going without wearing one... Weird.

Perhaps they all have social-emotional agnosia. In which case it wouldn't bother you at all.The wearing of masks as mandated, is hugely damaging to our social fabric. Seeing lips and facial expressions is a large and important part of how we communicate and interact with others.

I’ve only bought one mask during all this. Had to go to the pub for a birthday do so decided to buy a v for vendetta style mask as a peaceful protest! I lost that though as when we were all chucked out at 10 we went back to a mates house and I left it there as I was a bit drunk and forgot to pick it up!
Since then I only nip in shops for click and collect or a pint of milk from the corner shop so I just throw on an old bandana. If you’ve got to wear one, may as well look like you’re off to hold up the pony express!
If (and I agree with previous posts it’s a big if) I’ll happily go back to my normal routine and give up home delivery to actually go to the shops again, but if they’re sill in place after June, then I’ll carry on lining Bezo’s pockets I’m afraid.

i honestly don't see the issue here, the benefits massively outweigh the negatives. If people don't want to wear them, well in gave no issue with that, there are always people that don't like being told what to do.
You say that but it wasn’t that long ago the country was debating face coverings and hoodies. There was a reason that many were anti face coverings back then and those reasons still exist today. The simple fact is a large part of communication is based on facial expression, not just the sound of the words you hear, so there absolutely is a downside to masks.

Cheers, wiggy001, for confirming that I'm not going mad. I thought I was the only one who remembered that a few short years ago there was talk of parliamentary debates regarding the banning of the use of face coverings in public places for anti-terror and anti social behaviour reasons. Mad to see how far the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction now.
It's not mad, it's a temporary response to a wider issue.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
