Did Oliver Dowden tweet in support of Marcus Rashford when he received racist abuse as quickly as he did for a cricketer who posted racist comments?

Did Johnson back players who receive racist abuse the same way he's backed the fans booing their own team for standing against racism?

I didn't hear it if they did.

If you want the thread to move on move it on instead of the usual "don't talk about Boris Johnson on the Boris Johnson thread" stuff.

They did move it on. You brought it back to the same old bhstewie I'm not saying they're racist, but show.
I think it's entirely fair to ask why ministers and the Prime Minister lend public support to one group and not another.

Not really my fault that nobody (including you) has commented on The Atlantic article that Andy and others have linked to is it?

I was going to comment on it, but for the signal to noise ratio being dragged so low. As soon as a new page appeared with your usual post it seemed pointless.
I did peruse it and found it a fascinating read. I think it shows that whatever people say about him, it's clear he's from the left wing of the Tory party but that he has a nose for the zeitgeist; this steers him as much as his principles. Like I say, fascinating and whilst I think he enjoys being a bit of loose cannon, I agree with his take on the bureaucracy of the county being too defeatist and prone to sloth. Like a lot of voters, he gets mine due to his optimism, especially after the dour crummy'ness of May.

Indeed, it’s a great article.

I love his optimism too and his big plans especially on infrastructure projects etc (which unfortunately usually don’t materialise) but don’t think he’s a great manager or any good at making decisions which seems important qualities to ALSO have in a leader.

He’ll be a great cheerleader for the recovery but not so great in an emergency. Hopefully nothing else requiring attention to detail, honesty and an ability to learn from his mistakes will happen while he’s in charge.

Does left/right apply to Boris? Not so sure it does. Although they've fallen out, one of the things Cummings seemed to Tweet a while back was there is no longer a left/right or that it shouldn't apply. It was probably done in needless shorthand over 16 tweets, too!

Boris seems to do things that appeal to the 'common man' (whatever that is), irrespective of whether it would at some time or other have seemed wed only to the red or the blue team.

I agree. I don’t think he’s particularly ideological or dogmatic, he’s just doing what’s going to advance his career and keep him in power. Before he was PM people that knew him always talked about how fluid his politic were.

That might be great to have less ideologically focused leaders but I’d prefer to have more competent leaders and a government not just reacting to yougov polls and making policy on the hoof whatever the latest issue is.

Former health secretary 'quite optimistic' restrictions will be lifted
Tory MP and former health secretary Jeremy Hunt told Times Radio he is "feeling quite optimistic that we are going to see the restrictions lifted".

He said that "being double-jabbed works against this new variant, so, if Freedom Day ends up being put back a couple of weeks so we can get more people double-jabbed, I think it will only be a temporary setback. I think we are on the way to getting back to normal."

Asked whether the Prime Minister's former aide, Dominic Cummings, had provided MPs with written evidence to back up his claims about the Government, Mr Hunt said: "No, he has not."

On what he will ask Health Secretary Matt Hancock when he appears before MPs on Thursday, Mr Hunt said: "Well, obviously, Dominic Cummings made some very serious allegations against him in particular, saying that he lied repeatedly.

"So we will put those allegations to him, but we haven't received the written evidence to back those claims up that we were expecting.

"But we'll be putting all those allegations to him to give him his rightful chance to respond."

Perhaps Dom's struggling to find the evidence he stated he'd provide, you'd think nearly 2 weeks to find it would suffice?

Interesting one isn't it.

Given the nature of everyone involved Cummings may have nothing.

Or may be seeing what Hancock says on the record.

Who knows?

Rats in a sack.

Fun watching it though as long as it isn’t all negatively influencing government policy and decisions.

If anyone looking for evidence of Matt Hancock lying, they could do worse than examining his statement to the house (in December IIRC) to the effect the Excel Nightingale was fully operational and fully equipped with the original 4,000 beds

Richard Tice says it was empty.

https://youtu.be/GvjNU-0rwRs

A few weeks later it was a vaccination centre with around 100 beds.

A little way off topic here, but linked back to the Atlantic article and my comments re Trump in relation to Boris [i.e. the metaphorical rather than the literal; the general rather than the particular], Sam Harris had a late epiphany on the same idea but this time using stereoscopic vision. Worth a listen only if to hear a renowned neuroscientist utter the words 'pussy grabbing jesus'.

Anyway, for those that want to explore that theme. https://youtu.be/j3xBUNIkA_c [8mins]

Definitely not.

George Eustace says that we can't even ship chicken nuggets and sausages from Great Britain to Northern Ireland as a result of the Brexit deal Johnson signed but other than that it's all going swimmingly well hehe

Oh and Hancock has been taken over by zombies.

That or lining up the insanity defence.

So we can, we do and we are shipping them and because Eustice says the EU are characteristically slow to sort an agreement due on a future date you describe that as we can't because of Boris.

No, you used your own words to write something that was neither what he said nor what the reality is.

Oh look, another article where he doesn't say we can't even ship chicken nuggets and sausages from Great Britain to Northern Ireland as a result of the Brexit deal Johnson signed.

Plenty of articles and it wasn't a quote.

Do you have anything to post on Johnson or the Government or is it just the usual nipping at the ankles of anyone who dares to point out what they've said or done?

Last few pages are just him quoting you, seems a bit odd tbh.

It wasn't what he said at all.

If Johnson was that wide of the mark you'd be calling him a liar for it.
