Not a speech he wanted to give.

Thankfully we have a world class vaccination program.

We all see different things I guess?
Perhaps he should have sorted the borders out when the Delta variant as known about, rather than leaving it for 15 days in an attempt not to ps off Modi in regards to his Brexst trade deal.
THEY should have sorted out the borders far sooner, even back in March last year.

The Indian variant would have arrived regardless.

However, we are where we are and still better placed than most other Nations.

There will be other variants to come as well.

We can only hope that the vaccines are a good barrier.

Just watched the 6pm press conference. Is Johnson still half cut following the festivities at the G7 ?

29 July for freedom day, apparently wobble

Everyone in "the company" should be vaccinated ... wobble

Much mumbling, much waffling, he came across as even more inept than usual.
19th!

Looked like he was pretty pissed off about it to me, which is understandable.

Not a speech he wanted to give.

Thankfully we have a world class vaccination program.

You know it's the 19th, I know it's the 19th, Johnson said it was the 29th for some reason.

It doesn't really matter whether he's pissed off about the current situation or not - he had a message to deliver.
And he got stuff wrong. Zero excuses. This man is supposed to be the PM.

I really don’t see how this is Boris’s fault.

When the roadmap was announced three months ago he clearly said that easing of lockdown would be driven by data and not dates. When he said the date of the 21st June he said it would be the earliest date..

No one could foresee the delta variant would become such an issue. There is no proof that it even started in India. That’s why say “the delta variant first discovered in India” no one knows.

The governments excellent handling of the vaccination programme (let’s not forget if we were still in the EU we would still be waiting for approvals for the first doses) put us in a good position to fight off this new version.

There is no way to know that not putting India on the red list at the same time as all of its neighbours and not giving people ten days warning to come Britain had a negative effect on the spread of this variant. If you say otherwise you will need to be able to prove it.

Let’s not forget that Jeremy Corbyn wanted to give all of our vaccinations to Africa either.

Etc..

The other nations that have opened up far more than us?

Isn’t the issue that Boris and the Government are now crippled in their decision making by their disastrous handling of the first waves so now have to be looking tough on the virus when they should be looking at how we can live with the virus and open everything up more.

Their actions aren’t data driven but are driven by a political want to show they took it seriously in future inquiries.

Obviously it’s far too late though and all they’re doing now is causing more economic damage.

Hancock’s statements the other day said it all when he used the abandonment of the amber watch list and the sudden changing of Portugal green status as evidence that he was making tough decisions when defending his ineptitude earlier in the pandemic.

You can justify anything in this way by saying “we’re following the data/science/whatever” and producing graphs showing increases in whatever you want but ignoring the tiny amounts of deaths happening now happening.

A perfect microcosm...

He's a snivelling coward for not opening, and a murderer for not closing up more.

But there might be another variant!

They’re following the data!

Yay boris!

High covid deaths and large economic damage and large parts of the economy still not open. Boris has pulled a blinder for sure!

How on earth are we “better placed than most other nations” ? What an extraordinary claim,

Yes.

A snivelling coward, utterly incapable of making decisions, especially timely decisions.

Not at the same times obviously.

Closing up more when he saw loads were dying in Italy etc rather than leaving borders open and theatres and restaurants and venues open and urging people not to go there.

Opening up more when vaccinations are high and hardly anyone is dying.

Presumably you can see that opening up and closing down might depend on what’s going on at various stages of the pandemic.

It's the sort of thing that's always perfect hindsight.

Do you think we should be opening up now? Is he currently coward or murderer?

They have only got to delay another twice, then the next variant (shall we call it the Echo variant as it will be a repeat) will hit as the weather gets worse.
Furlough will be extended indefinitly next no doubt.
So whats the betting this insanity will be extended again next month?

Yes I think we should be opening up more now.

I’ve never said he was a murderer.

Last year I said we should be locking down earlier when we saw what was happening in Italy ahead of us and now I’m saying we should open up more. It’s not hindsight, all of this was pointed out at the time on here. Other countries and the worlds media were all asking what the U.K. was doing with our relaxed measures last year.

Posters on here defending Boris said it was due to compliance fatigue.

God knows why you’re parroting this tedious contrarian line, you’ve said yourself we should be opening up more.

Are you now saying you actually agree with Boris’s new timing on reducing measures and opening up?

ETA apologies maybe it wasn’t you that said we should be opening up more?

What's the data and criteria he used previously applied to this time, oh that has never neen released.

Yes whatever choice he makes, but it is not like he is making this up as he goes along is it, i mean he is working to some system surely?

It was satire wasn’t it?

Apologies for missing it, I thought it was genuine, it’s actually a very accurate portrayal of the yay Boris automatons.

Why are we doing this again, zero COVID or saving the NHS?

Tbh I don’t really mind everything’s largely returning to how it was anyway vis a vis mask wearing, socialising etc. This will put the kibosh on vaccinations though, why bother if it doesn’t put things back as normal?

Boris really is a plum, but we all knew that.
