The Conservative Party could do the unthinkable and take a high stakes gamble on a new leader
It will take some time but I can already see that one very strong woman could take the party by the scruff of the neck and turn it back into the election winning powerhouse that is was.
Not unthinkable. Considering a change of leadership is what the majority of tory MPs do all the time. Winning elections is secondary to getting the right person in place.

BBC: Electoral Commission to investigate PM flat funding

The Commission are saying there are "reasonable grounds to suspect an offence".

PMQs today should be fun.

Since all this latest bother for Boris (chatty rats, the flat, piles of bodies etc) is actually coming from the party and government itself and different people leaking and plotting it doesn’t seem impossible that some new leader is again looking more likely.

Boris fans blaming everyone (the media , phers, labour etc) but the actual source of all of this is the conservatives and Cummings after he was provoked (or encouraged) by some conservatives.

It’s a problem that’s entirely their own doing.

I never knew he was born in the USA and had dual citizenship until recently. I also didn't know he had 6 kids!!!

The funniest thing about Boris financially ruining himself to pay for decoration his girlfriend wanted isn't the ruination, or the terrible decor, or that Boris obviously daren't say 'no' to her.

It's that all this cost and hassle is over a flat that isn't even his.

Imagine spending a massive chunk of cash tarting the place up and it's just a rental with a short notice period.

Guess he might not be too unhappy though as at least he gets to walk away from it at some point and it'll be someone else's problem to bin it all.
I think the next incumbent will struggle to return it to a 'conventional' style of decor on a £30k budget.

I'm not a Boris fan but I just can't get excited about the flat funding.

it does make me wonder why there isn't some sort of (reaosnable) allowance for new No10/11 incumbants. Even our company allows that if you are relocated.

There are many more important (dodgy) things to highlight.

Just picture Boris saying "it's wonderful Carrie" with a look of horror in his eyes.
Both of those pictures appear in a daily fail article from yesterday with a caption underneath it saying "There is a labyrinthine money trail used for the cost of the £58,000 renovations (pictured)"

Sadly for the Grrrrr... Boris brigade, a TinEye reverse image search shows those pictures to have been around on the Internet since at least 2015... so either the Fail is taking the piss with the pictures, or their journalistic standards are even lower than we thought.

Either way, looks like a few of the main frothers have been had. No doubt they will be claiming, "yes it was a joke and of course we KNEW that wasn't really the flat" laughlaughlaugh

Erm, there is, they are allowed £30k - which is enough to redecorate a flat.

There's an allowance of £30k a year, isn't there?

Surely the scandal is that at some point in the next couple of years £100k more will be needed to undo this rather personal taste eyesore when the next PM moves in and says WTF... , probably at more taxpayers expense. When May moved out there may have only been a few thousand quids worth of John Lewis stuff to offload. The market for this will be somewhat more limited I would have thought.

The Daily Mail doesn’t have any standards to lower.

30k a year isn’t it?

Problem is that Boris and Carrie have far more expensive tastes and apparently didn’t want to pay for it themselves.

You are right, that is even worse.

TinEye also seems to think that picture has been around since 2017 as well..... perhaps TinEye is wrong??

EDIT on one of the TinEye Links, here is the pic from a blog purporting to be in September 2017....

http://markdsikesblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/...

Grrr... Boris aside.....

Whoever did that has wallpapered the fking ceiling to match! yuckvomit

Another Edit..... Looks to be from the home of the designer....Lulu Lytle, there seem to be a couple of pictures of that room with different sofas in.

Article from November 2020 https://sheerluxe.com/styling/cult-furniture-desig...

Jesus Wept that whole house is hideous - but as long as she is happy. Let's hope that the downing street refurb is a bit more, errr, conservative.
