So why bother with the masks and utterly ridiculous [socially distanced] elbow nudging at the start ?

Only serves to make it more insulting when the masks are then dropped and the attendees morph into a single, Bollinger quaffing huddle.
God knows, it’s pathetic I agree. Ironically it sums up the virtue signalling everyone has been doing for the last 15 months,

The rest see how much damage this is causing. We’ve become myopic. This has gone on for far too long and it’s time to stop “listening to the science” and start listening to the bank manager.

You are ignoring the simple fact that we were expecting an announcement that these restrictions, the ones that we agree are largely being ignored, are due to be lifted in 1 week.

But yesterday, our glorious PM, let it be known that he is likely to announce that we will instead keep the restrictions for another month.

After making this pronouncement he went on to blatantly ignore them.

By the way, they are not behaving like everyone else. No one in this country is able to organise an event like that. No venue will take the booking. Not even AFTER 21st June

Kids up and down the country who had their exams disrupted again this year were looking forward hopefully to proms. University students who have been educated through zoom for a year and banned from socialising were hoping that they might be able to have a summer ball.

All of that will now be cancelled because it’s too dangerous. And on the day that this stupid mop headed bag of blubber decided to piss all over the mental health of the nation, the fat odious oaf then went to to host a drinks reception where he flagrantly broke all of the rules he is using to once again destroy lives and businesses.

These kids won’t get another chance. Just like the ones that were thrown under the bus last year. That’s it.

I assure you this is not faux outrage.
I don’t think they broke any rules that are currently in place. Apart from the travel and quarantine restrictions of course!

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment though, absolutely.

Not surprising at all. Maybe they should try the poll again but this time add that furlough/income support will end on 21 June and see if half still want it?

Much of the country are getting a free sun tan at the cost of the taxpayer currently.

People at the lido today were told that due to COVID rules there was a 10 minute maximum poolside for changing only, and that sunbathing was not permitted. Things like this I really can't see going away, despite the fact that you should be able to do what you want in your hour slot and that being outdoors is zero risk. Less than breathing side by side other swimmers surely.

Elysium, you’ve been an admirably level headed chap throughout and a voice of reason. It’s encouraging to see even you losing your rag now!
Agreed, and it’s been very welcome. Though-out he has posted very informative, non biased info and data, however, given the current situation and following the blatant ignorance on display at the G7 meeting I can assure you that he won’t be the only one losing patience now. Despite the prattle from the motly crew on here, the frustration is growing.

I also have a son nearing GCSE and the loss of education is a real concern and will affect grades, it has been a total and utter shambles the way things have been handled. If things were as bad as they’re making out now to warrant the extension, the G7 should have been delayed and lead by example.

Mancock on the TV the other day failing to confirm, or deny the extension and simply sat smirking saying we will have to wait and see. The situation has become a parody of itself now, and I’d be surprised if this year sees any form of normality, for the plebs at least anyway.

If only at the same time they would also poll the perceived risk of catching covid, and perceived risk of complications or death from it.

Best post in a long while. I have a 20 year old that won’t get two years of his life back and admitted he has “down” days. Just finished second year at Uni and looking forward to end of year celebrations including the summer ball which he has help organise.
I keep saying to my mum and dad who are in their 80s and keep hiding away that I’m not bothered about them- it my two sons and the young that have been hardest hit.
I’m on the front line of educating 16+, have been for many years. The damage it’s done is undeniable to kids and staff. I always loved this job and seeing kids progress and grow has always been a cornerstone of that but pretty sure i won’t now last another year in it. Watching the decline of the students and staff has been in equal measures heartbreaking and enraging.

I think most of them post on here judging by their responses. I agree though, remove free money from the equation and see how much uptake there is for the extension. Those of us in the real world trying to run a business and keep things ticking over (which I have throughout) the situation is becoming more tense, the river of free money doesn’t divert to all streams.

Yep - I own an event company that is reliant on gatherings greater than 30 (always outdoors, but the guests spend a lot of time indoors). I have not had a job in over a year. I have bookings for June 24th, and July that I have to wait until tomorrow to find out if (that) I'll have to cancel them, again, or, I know, it won't happen, they give the green light and then I've got a few days to prepare. It's madenning.

All the while you are all paying me not to work with grants. (just for those that think "I'm alright jack", or "it doesn't affect me", or "It's just another month, it isn't THAT bad" - YOU and your children will be paying to support my business and countless others (plus all the fraud) for the rest of your lives, getting worse every single day we are blanket-refused permission to hold events with more than a handful of people.
Edited by Griffith4ever on Sunday 13th June 10:56
I hear your frustration and I sympathise. Your predicament - and I'm sure you're not alone - is why I get a bit cheesed off with some posters on here who continually post "I'm all right Jack" and "things are very near normal, stop complaining" type comments. No need to name those posters, we all know who they are.

Meanwhile, do you think there's any chance that tomorrow, Boris will announce a reprieve for wedding/events businesses? "You may now open, because the government is acutely aware of the pressure on your businesses" sort of thing.

Statistics. You need surprisingly few people for a representative sample.

Looks like it's skewed towards people who are over 65 who think Starmer would make a good PM.

2000 people isn't enough to consider it to be based on the whole population.

As for the over 65's, I thought most of them were vaccinated now. Why are they bothered? Hmmm ....

These polls are not done to learn what the public think. They are publicised to tell the public what to think.

this bit gives me the fking rage!!!

....

Dr Raghib Ali, a government adviser on COVID-19, told Trevor Phillips On Sunday that a delay to lifting lockdown is "inevitable", and he "expects" the prime minister to say that "a delay is needed to make sure that we don't get to the situation again where the NHS is unable to provide care to all its patients".

He added: "Hospitals are extremely busy at the moment, the emergency departments last month were the busiest they have been for years because of the huge backlog of patients that didn't come in during the previous waves.

"Even a relatively small increase in hospital admissions from COVID will have a significant impact on all our non-COVID patients.

"We really can't afford for those people to suffer any more; they have already suffered enough over the last 18 months."

....

FFS! We locked down to save the NHS from being overwhelmed and now it's in danger of eating itself.

Whatever happens my masks are going in the bin on the 21st - i'm done with this charade.
