People think that 1945 to 2020 was ‘normal’ , when it really wasn’t. Most of the British public have been serfs in some fashion for a thousand years. It’s pretty obvious that ‘they’ think we have gotten too spoilt, time for a reset.
Yeah, dead obvious, that'll be it. Anyone who lives in the 1st / modern world is doing so at the cost of people who have to endure a much lower standard of living.
We have cheap tech like smartphones/laptops/TVs/Amazon speakers because we are happy to outsource it to counties with significantly poorer working conditions.
We have cheap fashion because we outsource it to countries that have an almost complete lack of health and safety regulations in terms of toxic chemicals, use of potentially dangerous machinery with inadequate or non-existent training etc
Not to mention the ‘occasional’ use of slave/prison Labour to produce stuff like peeled garlic or very cheap fish products.
Sometimes it even strikes closer to home, like the Leicester sweatshops that hit the news last year, or the currently moans from people like Tim Martin about allowing him to import cheap Labour, rather than just pay a living wage.
The lifestyle that people want is typically funded by people living a considerably less comfortable life. The main thing is that we export it these days.
In Victorian times it was just confined to the workhouses.

I also see society becoming very divided. My local Facebook group is full of people terrified that they've seen people not wearing masks (both indoor abd outdoor locations). There needs to be some serious investment in both mental health and convincing people they can live with it...if that's the plan.
Trouble is that they ramped up the fear so much to the point that believers are so terrified that they’d happily see the unvaccinated put into camps. I saw an article the other day with the nut jobs demanding unvaccinated medical staff are fired craig1912 said:

What’s the easiest way to watch it live?
If you have Sky it’s channel 515Are they planning a youtube channel? Thought they were, but nothing (yet)
Are they live and up and running a full schedule now?

I’m currently on the Costa Del Sol and it feels like a totally different universe to the one I have experienced back in the U.K. of late. The land of control and paranoia.
Yeah people have masks, but they are worn half - heartedly.. I was down at the beach this morning and it was busy! I’ve actually shaken hands with a few people too - first time in ages!
I was out here August, October and December last year.luckily!
Yeah for sure it’s a lot quieter than what you would expect for June. But fundamentally I don’t feel the ever pressing fear that the IK government seems obsessed with forcing down peoples throats.
My observation is the Spanish appear equally non- believing now of their own rules set upon them
Just let us live our lives

6 of us went to El Oceano at Mijas for lunch today. We arrived at 1 and had a few pre lunch drinks. By the time we went to our table around 2 the restaurant was c.60% full. An hour later there were just a couple of tables free. No social distancing and only staff wearing masks.
Great location and service, fabulous Sunday lunch with plenty of good wine, live music and a great atmosphere. Felt completely normal other than the masks on the staff.
El Oceano clientele is primarily expat, but the San Pedro restaurants (which are mostly locals) that I’ve been to over the last few weeks have also really started to pick up.
Hoping we see something of a tourist season this summer though... there are loads of bars and restaurants up for sale in the areas heavily reliant on seasonal trade. My neighbour owns a restaurant in Puerto Banus, and he’s recently reopened after closing back in October. He says trade is starting to pick up, but he’s nowhere near making money yet.
My point was / is : look U.K., you are being sold an absolute dummy by utter fools right now.
Wake up FFS

I can tell you stories of crammed cornish beaches and people just having a good time but if the evening they want to go to a night club then they can't because there closed .

I did my first freelance job today after the government cruelly destroyed my career March 2020.
It was great. Within minutes masks were ripped off, hands shaken and hugs had. We worked hard, had little sleep and drove 100s of miles to get there.
I don't fking care if I now die of Covid despite my 2, now considered by government as useless, injections.
For a weekend I felt like I was living again.
What is your career / industry. I’m not doubting your assertion, but I know a heck of a lot of people in lots of walks of life and none of them have been unable to do anything connected to their career for 15 months. Worst affected is my mate who has an exhibition stand building factory, but even he has been doing odds and ends since back end of 2020. It was great. Within minutes masks were ripped off, hands shaken and hugs had. We worked hard, had little sleep and drove 100s of miles to get there.

Again, I’m not doubting you, just trying it work out what industry it may be that is so badly hit by this that despite there being quite limited restrictions for quite a lot of the last 15 months, you’re on,y now able to get going again.
I, too, am very glad you’re getting going again, it must have been a particularly stty 15 months.
And the future is looking bleak for the company, as large scale exhibitions, think the big ones in Vegas, Frankfurt etc... Aren't they going to be happening for a while I'd think!
A dance teacher I know has had to furlough all his staff as very small class sizes, limited times, no events, no bookings for the hall, no sales of drinks etc... So that'll be another 5 people with zero work.
I'm sure there's a lot more examples out there where there's been a complete dead end of work available.

Crammed Cornish beaches?
No chance of going to a local nightclub.
I could think of worse.
We went down to our harbour today which was suitably rammed, what with the game on the big screen outside one of the pubs and the sunshine and Grockles. The dorset cream tea , sitting and watching the boats come and go was lovely. Anyway we caught a taxi home as MrsVS has a bad knee and chatted to our taxi driver on the way home who said that since May many of the pubs here are opening until 3 in the morning and the taxis and takeaways have been as busy as they would be if the nightclubs were open. No chance of going to a local nightclub.

I don't think he knows what he is saying to be honest. Trump was a misogynistic prat but having someone who is clearly senile is more dangerous IMO, because wherever US government policy comes from, it isn't him.https://rumble.com/vihdsj-did-biden-just-say-covid...
