My brother in law works (well, whatever that means) for a company that setup exhibition stands all over the world... No work, nada, nothing, zip, for the entire time.
And the future is looking bleak for the company, as large scale exhibitions, think the big ones in Vegas, Frankfurt etc... Aren't they going to be happening for a while I'd think!
A dance teacher I know has had to furlough all his staff as very small class sizes, limited times, no events, no bookings for the hall, no sales of drinks etc... So that'll be another 5 people with zero work.
I'm sure there's a lot more examples out there where there's been a complete dead end of work available.
I work in aviation maintenance. I’m a contractor and it’s the only time in 20 years I’ve been out of work. Luckily I’ve picked up some private jet work here and there, which has completely enlightened me to how much the wealthy are carrying on as normal. Some of my friends in the industry have had zero work since last March. And the future is looking bleak for the company, as large scale exhibitions, think the big ones in Vegas, Frankfurt etc... There's as much chance opening up on the 19th July as there was 21st June.
Depends what you mean by "opening up". They are almost certainly going to keep some of the "pandemic theatre" while they crank up the propaganda machine for the autumn lockdown. A brief break from the other restrictions as a "holiday" might happen. Edited by JagLover on Monday 14th June 06:58
Data not dates. But no one will answer the question on what the data has to show. We’re way below any modelling, we are way below any data compared to last year when we had at least as much freedom. So if you’re going to delay, tell us the actual numbers and reasons for it. Not cases, no one believes that nonsense anymore, hospitalisations is all we care about.

21st June was never guaranteed, and was always dependent on other factors and 'no earlier than'.
The data shows we are in a much better position than we could have hoped, though.sevensfun said:

Does it? Cases are increasing considerably. That hasn't filtered through to hospitalisations and deaths yet. I don't dispute that they will be reduced due to the implementation of the vaccine but by exactly how much we don't know yet. Obsolete Driver said:

And how will delaying help those cases if they are rising under the current restrictions? All the current restrictions are doing is limiting economic growth, it’s not limiting virus spread and clearly hasn’t for 15 months. It’s a total facade of control, it is doing no one any good whatsoever. Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
