There was a poster called Lemming Train who in the earlier volumes of this topic kept telling me that the whole point of all this was to get as many people as possible vaccinated - even those who don't need it - and that the restrictions on our freedoms would become the new normal. He was saying this last summer just after the mask mandate came in.

Many, including myself dismissed him to a point, but everything he said/predicted has come true.

There is no reason anyone can come up with to justify the extension of the restrictions, yet extend them they appear to be doing.

I was at my grandparents at the weekend (both late 80's, vaccinated and full on Boris supporters) and they were saying there's too many cases, he'll have to delay the unlock. This coming from the type of people we've put our lives on hold for. Both vaccinated and to top it off, they don't go out anywhere anyway (apart from shopping), haven't done for years.

I had to bite my tongue as I don't want to fall out with them over it.

Exactly that - they've forgotten to multiply the final data point by a Ferguson.

Schoolboy error.

There is evidence cases are increasing. There is evidence that hospitalisations are increasing. Likely we will soon see deaths increasing. With this in mind the government needs to weigh up the current trend against what may happen if they relax restrictions further at the current time.

Yes definitely
Perhaps stuff like
Advisors "well PM in our estimations we can kick the can down the road for another month and tie it in with the start of the school hols. We don't actually know what the real figures are but we could be in for a rise in cases.
Looks like as we feared the younger the target group the less likelihood of them taking up the vaccine and we can maybe play on that a bit"

Remember we have been testing the water with Matt and Dominic's interviews and it wasn't as bad as we thought
PM. Dominic.... Dominic.... DOMINIC !
Advisors No not that Dominic PM. Barnard Castle shot his arrows and wide off his targets no we refer to Dominic Raab tail end of last week. Did a lovely little number on Peston's show and got away with it. The way has been paved all it needs is for you to get out there on Monday do a bit of bluster show a few graphs and use terms like one last push ..........there is definite ligfht at the end of the tunnel ... If you could sort of hint at the selfishness and moral duty of the younger types to get vaccinated that would be a great help .
You could even try we are doing it for the many .. not the few well perhaps not that last one. But it's ok YOU can get away with this for another month easy
PM - "your sure about this"
Advisors " as sure as we can be"

You’d have thought they would have shared that data with Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP who was just on TalkRadio saying he doesn’t know of any data to keep the lockdown, and even more the data suggests that not opening up now is just going to push infections into autumn/winter instead of allowing infections to go through in the summer. Exactly the same mistake we made last year, when we didn’t open up in May and left it another 2 months which screwed us over when schools went back in the autumn.

History keeps repeating itself. Badly.

Are we back to this again?

When Govt decisions make no sense its because they have secret information that explains it. So we must never ever question Govt?

I see the thread background alternation has gone to poo again. Bad news day trolls, again?

Don't feed them. Script them out. It's not difficult.

Remember, they aren't trying to have a discussion. If they cannot lead the conversation then they disrupt the conversation.

When is it a troll and when is it someone who doesn’t agree with you? What’s the difference?

The thread title poses a question, so people are entitled to support or oppose the 'cure'. Using a script simply creates an echo chamber for your point of view, but feel free to crack on.

And what happens when there is - and there will be - the Echo and Foxtrot variants? “Oh, hang on, these look more transmissible still and are targeting the xxx age group” etc etc

“Better give it another month”
“It’s only winter”

Or better still test the bejesus out of the north west. Oh look! More cases! Tell you what let’s have a tier system….

I am not at all a vaccine sceptic like some on here, not even one percent, but the government just seem to be trying to cover up their cock ups they think they made last year. But I don’t think this will ever end.

Why is this delta variant not running riot in Europe?

There is none to some of these people. I imagine Grumbledoak in a pub shouting that he will script out the bloke at the bar saying things he doesn't like.

Just having a quick look at some of the data in the government web site shows that of the 7500 (from 945,000 tests btw) cases in the UK reported yesterday, 2134 were in the North West whilstbLondon had 932 and Scotland had 1032.

In terms of hospitalizations in the North West, there are 272 in hospital in the NW as at 11 June compared to 936 this time last year and a low of 81 seen at the end of August 20.

A month ago there were 152 in hospital, so numbers are not exactly increasing rapidly - at the peak they had 4300 in hospital.

Looks like the while country is being penalized for the North West.

Who gives a st if they're increasing? People get ill and die all the time, every day, from lots of different things. If they increase to a level again that looks like it may cause hospital meltdowns in the near future then do something at that point.

Maintaining restrictions on ifs, buts and maybes is a fking joke.

Yes, note that the second dose of vaccine taking full effect was precisely the stated logic behind the Feb opening up.

So why not that logic again this time round. Which would be another three weeks beyond these four weeks.

Oh wait, what about 12-15 year olds. "We know they aren't high risk groups but they often interact with high risk groups ... especially in the holidays etc etc" and then you have another two month delay.
