The airfield was used extensively by the USAAF during WW2.
It's certainly no stranger to aircraft of all sizes. Mil. aircraft operations are quite normal.

Newquay like Shannon and Prestwick get used for training loads as they’ve got a long runway and they’re quiet so great for circuit training. Obviously during covid most airports have been quiet so it’s not such an issue.
I doubt there would be any practice for this event as the airport is easy to operate into eg no issues with terrain or whatever else that might be difficult and thus requiring special training.
