How big is Newquay runway? Does AF1 fit?!

Glad to see that in amongst all the whining and complaining someone else has the same question as me!
They need around 2,000m and Newquay has 2,700m. 747’s have used the runway previously -

We go to the area every year...last year there was a large military transport aircraft doing take off/landings on one of the days. Am now wondering if it was some sort of practice for this event.

To keep things simple, Newquay airport used to be called RAF St Mawgan. The airfield was split from the rest of the station in 2008 to form the airport. RAF St Mawgan still exists there and does an important job.

https://www.raf.mod.uk/our-organisation/stations/r...

The airfield was used extensively by the USAAF during WW2.

It's certainly no stranger to aircraft of all sizes. Mil. aircraft operations are quite normal.

This is what I find annoying about the 'elite' group and the world they are making everyone live in.

It's been the same forever really. The elites arrive, do what they want and everyone else has to stay away or be disrupted. Places get locked down, normal people can't do normal things anymore. All because a group of pompous, self serving idiots show up in town with their armed muscle.

It's different now though because not only do the peasants have to bow and make way, they are doing things that the peasants are banned from doing.

Want to go on holiday abroad? No way fella. Covid. Innit.

Want to meet up with a group of people? No way fella. Covid. Innit.

Want to live a life that wouldn't be considered eco friendly? No way fella. Global warming. Innit.

Yet the elites and their chums carry on regardless doing all of the above.

These absolute c u next Tuesday's turn up from en mass all over the world, mingle with each other, disrupt everyone else's lives and decide how everyone else is going to live. Even if the elite get notification of potential covid infection, they will make up some rule or scheme that means they can carry on with their lives.

One other thing is the cost. It must cost a hell of a lot to move the elite and their staff around. Yet it doesn't matter because they aren't paying for it. The peasants pay for it and they pretty much decide how they will spend the money taken from the peasants.

Classic do as I say. There is even a picture of our useless prime minister emerging from a plane in Cornwall. A plane? Could you get anything more obnoxious? How dare he lecture us about being green and then fly there. Same to all of them. Pompous, self serving, out of touch with reality tossers who shouldn't be in a place of power.

Really, really annoys me. I do hope that one day, the human race will advance enough to understand that we don't need a bunch of overpriveliged a-holes preaching to us about how to live our lives and controlling us.

Build back better. Go away you slimy, overweight, under the thumb moron.

Absolute hypocrites. The lot of them.

Couldn’t have said it better. It’s disgusting.
I'm just waiting till November, when a big chunk of Glasgow is closed so a load of politicians and eco-warriors can fly in and lecture us all on reducing our carbon emissions. https://ukcop26.org/

If ever there was a conference that should be online, it's COP26.

Where's Dennis Pennis when you need him? (For these here old enough to remember).

He would have some fun with the G7 ego's and provide us with some fun.

Best rant in ages 10/10

Well written, some swearing but not too much and still managed to drop the c bomb.

Agree entirely.

Carbis bay hotel is cashing in 40k for a week for an apartment that sleeps 8. An extra 10k for breakfast.
Where have you seen that? The hotel is closed - the Government will have booked whole place as an entity.

This is their normal price after being selected as a G7 hotel
I see it as from (a mere) £2500 per night. £25K for B&B for a week in Sept. Before that, there was no availability on the few random dates I tried. Who knows, maybe people do spend £50K on a week there, or perhaps a few days around a wedding for a family with more money than sense.

Newquay like Shannon and Prestwick get used for training loads as they’ve got a long runway and they’re quiet so great for circuit training.

Obviously during covid most airports have been quiet so it’s not such an issue.

I doubt there would be any practice for this event as the airport is easy to operate into eg no issues with terrain or whatever else that might be difficult and thus requiring special training.

As per the thread in Boats, Planes and Trains, there are two Typhoons, one of them wearing an incorrect transponder hex ID, which belongs to a US registered Cessna 208 - suspect maintenance cockup rather than any cloak and dagger malarkey - nobody is going to be fooled by a Caravan doing 600 knots - ID was probably reset during some spannering and not correctly set afterwards.

Edited - looks like the Typhoons are turning the transponders to standby when tanking, hence intermittently disappearing from ADSB monitors.

17 vehicles in the motorcade, how utterly ridiculous.

Why don’t these plonkers use Teams and save the public a stload of cash and carbon.

Doesnt show the scale of how big those American trucks are, the Perp is huge. Can easily imagine why they haven't got the Beast over.

Look how small the X5s look!

Having been up close to their motorcade it is seriously impressive stuff.
