BBC said:
New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard has become the first ever transgender athlete picked to compete at an Olympics, in a controversial decision.

Officials have selected her for the women's weightlifting team for Tokyo 2020, after qualifying requirements were recently modified.

She had competed in men's events before coming out as transgender in 2013.

Critics say Hubbard has an unfair advantage, but others have argued for more inclusion at the Games

...

She will compete in the women's 87-kg weightlifting category.

The 43-year-old became eligible to compete at the Olympics when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2015 changed its rules allowing transgender athletes to compete as a woman if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold.

NZ must be desperate for medals, as Germaine Greer said ( not a direct quote )
“You can tattoo my nose black , transplant long fluffy ears and tail , but it still does not make me a ******* spaniel”

I sort of don't blame NZ's selection, if it's within the rules it would seem odd not to. When it's all ex-men winning medals maybe common sense will break out.

Makes a total mockery of women's sport though, just have the one category if we're not going to allow to compete the very people women's sport was created for.

Lol.

What opinion are fellow women athletes voicing on this? Accepting they will be under social pressure to outwardly conform to the on trend opinion.
Because ultimately it's going to be on them to call it out IMO - not sure anyone else can without being labeled bigoted.

I think I'm in the mindset that either this happens or this woman is put to shame by a woman (from birth female) who has been competing in this category for years. I guess we will see.

Just have a full new category. Transgender male and woman. There everyone's happy. An ex male will naturally lift loads more than any real woman thats just genetics. Womans sport is over.

Norman Bates missed a trick with the hotel and murdering business.

He could have been winning those solid gold medals and sugary yogurt sponsorship deals.

Hopefully he’s good enough that the whole world will wake up to how wrong this is.

Allowing someone who’s been through male puberty to compete as a female is taking away places and wins from women.

On the contrary - men are more likely to have their views in this matter listened to while women who speak out against it are labelled as transphobic.

Women athletes - just like women in general - have been socialised to ‘be kind’ and to be ‘inclusive’. Only a very few active athletes have been able to speak out -although the number is growing.

A few ex-competitors have been vocal about this issue -Sharron Davies in particular has done a great job of shining a light on the whole nonsense of it.

Anyone born male should not be competing ‘as a woman’ - it completely destroys the integrity of women’s sport.

It is.
I feel sorry for the women competing in that event.

Inside the rules as defined, so how can it be cheating? If you have an issue with the rules, then that is different.

Why can't they think this through to it's logical conclusion?

Utterly ridiculous. Another sign the world has gone mad. Thanks for the South Park link, not seen that one, very apt though. This will just kill off women's strength sports.

There was a twitter thread running round recently listing all the ex-men now in professional women's sports.

The author noted the entirely coincidental coincidence that all of them had a) participated in the men's events prior to trans-ing, b) done poorly, c) were in highly paid events like golf, weightlifting, etc, and that there were none to be found in the eg synchronised swimming events.
