I'll hazard a guess that it's a clumsy attempt to galvanise a country absolutely riven by division be that Brexit, Scottish Nationalism, Identity Politics, skin colour politics, Gender politics, Islamist extremism, Anti vax nutters or any number of 'causes'. It won't work unfortunately.
I'd love to think it was clumsy but it's much more likely to be a well targeted appeal to a certain sector within England. If it was a genuine attempt to bring the country together it wouldn't be launched on the day it is being launched and it wouldn't exclude NI.
So yet another bad faith act.

For those of us who don't click random bks links, who is it from, about and what does it have to do with the govt?
Oh and can somebody confirm about the school kids leaving before the alleged proposed day of something? If so, that is genius level trolling
The Department of education tweeted out support and 25 June is the last day of school before the summer break in Scotland, with some schools closing throughout this week.Oh and can somebody confirm about the school kids leaving before the alleged proposed day of something? If so, that is genius level trolling

It was founded by Kash Singh, a retired police inspector, in 2013. Oh and can somebody confirm about the school kids leaving before the alleged proposed day of something? If so, that is genius level trolling

One Britain One Nation brings us together, not to focus on our differences but to celebrate the values we share: tolerance, kindness, pride, respect, and a tremendous desire to help others.
Today’s Britain boasts a wonderful array of cultures. It is our multicultural identity that makes Britain so unique.
Our diverse cultures are inextricably linked by the sole fact that we are British. It is this fact that has prompted OBON to reinforce and revive what collectively unites us.

No idea what this is for, or the point behind it, with the added bonus that there are unpleasant shades of nationalism in it.
Historically, the rise of nationalism hasn’t been a good thing, from what I recall of school…

I agree with all of this, except the last. Sadly, it may well work as people are continually proving that they are pretty stupid - some here still think Brexit was a good thing. Go figure.
Since it's the 5th anniversary of the referendum, this from twitter:Q: Name one thing that Brexit has improved?
A: The average IQ of the EU...

That's why I'm struggling to understand the purpose of OBON - my guess is that it's intended at inclusion and celebrating shared values which i don't think anybody would argue against.
It's just more populist red meat to distract and pacify the flagshaggers. The Tories thrive on it.CzechItOut said:
I can't get my head around being proud of the arbitrary geographical boundary you're born within, especially when it also contains the likes of Mick Philpott, Ian Huntley and Fred West.
Always seems weird to me too. It’s all about common values, like your values are dictated by your nation instead of your family etc.
Wouldn’t there be less division if we all thought of ourselves as humans and world citizens rather than focusing in national boundaries.

Trump-style class war, see also recent education report claiming anti-racism has held back poor white working class
That would be the poor white working class that Tory MPs voted against giving free school meals to a little while back, along with a derisory injection of cash (in relative terms) to help alleviate the educational effects of lockdowns. Unknown_User said:
If that's your best defence then we can all conclude One Britain, One Nation is utter bobbins!
One Britain?
Does that include all the devolved nations? I'm assuming this has been run past the separate communities of Northern Ireland? Isn't Wales a Principality? Scotland is a country, so surely it should be One Britain (United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland), 2 countries, one Principality and a Province/Country/Region/Occupied lands One Nation?
My bolding - no, its not a principality. Agree with the rest of your post though. One Britain?

I did seem to me once that we were starting to converge into some kind of world culture with arbitary geographical borders ebbing away, where virtually the some total of human knowledge is shared free on the internet, we would all be able to access the same information and become more enlightened, have a shared understand and all that. But the opposite has been happening of course, polarised division, culture wars, etc. Ah well...

So its an idea from a random bloke?
And the DFE has said they broadly support the aims?
Im loving the Scottish kids beak up before the day in question though Outstanding!
DFE support was pretty explicit - here's the text of the tweet. It's definitely trolling. And the DFE has said they broadly support the aims?

We're encouraging schools across the UK to celebrate One Britain One Nation Day on 25 June, when children can learn about our shared values of tolerance, kindness, pride and respect.
