This is precisely the kind of thing that British people don't do.
Now, if someone wanted to organise a mass singalong of "Boris, you dopey , please fk off. (And take that tit Gove with you)", I'd be all in favour.
Not forgetting that the government encouraged schools from the UK to join in when NI isn't part of Britain and plenty of Scottish schools are closed Now, if someone wanted to organise a mass singalong of "Boris, you dopey , please fk off. (And take that tit Gove with you)", I'd be all in favour.
Plus it's hilariously bad.
I was wondering what all the OBON stuff on the news was.
I mean, I have no major issues with the concept of encouraging people to be a bit more 'together', but I really, really don't like the flag-waving nationalism and find it very embarrassing and unnecessary.
The OBON 'national anthem' is just fking creepy, especially with the kids singing it. Just reminds me of something North Korea would do.
Lastly and most importantly:
OBON has been on the go for 15 years now, so why all of a sudden has the government, and more importantly Boris, just decided it is the best thing since sliced bread?
The answer, of course, is that this is just yet another one of Bo Jo's classic distraction tactics. Make everyone wave British flags and think happy patriotic British thoughts, ironically a day after the newspaper headlines read pretty damning things like "Brexit leaves a £45 Billion hole in UK economy" and "Brexit has left the UK £800 million per week worse off"
It's the same as his stupid idea to rebrand all the trains and rail services as "Great British Railways" it means absolutely nothing, but distracts the public for a little while.
It's Bo Jo's answer to everything act the moment. Give the people silly little flags to wave and repaint everything in red, white and blue.
Everyone seems to agree that OBON is pretty awful, so maybe it is uniting us all?

Always seems weird to me too.
It’s all about common values, like your values are dictated by your nation instead of your family etc.
Wouldn’t there be less division if we all thought of ourselves as humans and world citizens rather than focusing in national boundaries.
Exactly. I work in IT and therefore a lot of my colleagues are Indian. What I've found is when you get to know them, many share the same values that I do. They want to work hard, provide for their families, want the best opportunities for their children etc. It’s all about common values, like your values are dictated by your nation instead of your family etc.

On the other hand, there is a white British bloke who lives near me with a Mike Tyson-style face tattoo. I will never know what possesses anyone to think that is a good idea.
Therefore, in my experience, I have more in common with educated, hardworking Indians, than the someone who just happens to be born in the same country as me.
