Dover Straits are internationally recognised as allowing freedom of passage.
Arent these waters internationally recognised as allowing freedom of passage, only to the entire planet except Russia?

I see the Russians have called out fat Bozza’s bluff. After the chemical weapons attack on British soil and the tories utterly toothless response, I wonder what Bozza’s next move will be?

Maybe the Russians won’t allow Bozza to use their Italian villa for his next holibobs if he continues to mess about!

rofl You seriously think some ancient SU24Ms are going to trouble a T45? I strongly suspect that Defender could comfortably deal with the situation without breaking into a sweat, should the Russians be so silly as to carry through with their rhetoric. The only people bluffing here are the Russians, and any sensible person knows it. But don't let the facts get in the way of yet another one of your Grrrr Boris attacks.

To be fair, it isn't the ancient planes the navy need to worry about. It's the anti-ship missiles they can carry.

My word Andrew, this isn’t some ‘Boy’s Own Adventure’ comic book yarn, this is a British warship sailing into contested waters and the Russians issuing a clear threat.

Bozza needs to stop playing with his action man toys and consider the consequences of his reckless actions and what it might mean for the brave boys and girls of our armed forces. If he softly whimpers into the background and cowardly scampers away from the Russian threat (like he did with the chemical attack on British soil) he’ll show great weakness, whereas if he faces up to the Russian threat and calls their bluff then who knows where it might lead.

But hey, YAY BOZZA…!!!

Could be Boris' Falklands. Or, hey, his Crimea! The yanks bailed on Ukraine, so did the EU. Maybe Boris is of sterner stuff!

We could stop off at Taiwan on the way to Japan, too. We don't have a royal yacht, but the Queen Elizabeth will do.

So what do you think Boris should've done in retaliation to the Salisbury incident? You're calling him a coward for that, and an idiot for this?

Quite. I think Andy also underestimates how vulnerable a lone warship is to attack from the air (or from land based missile systems).

A Type 45 Destroyer is not the invincible super-ship Andy seems to think it is (no ship is).

Just like many leaders before it's just Boris trying to divert attention away from his failing at home.

So the fact that there was a USN warship and a Dutch warship also present means it's all down to Borris?

Well if Bozza wouldn’t do anything when the United Kingdom suffered a chemical attack what would he do if the Russians actually carried out their threat of bombing our galant armed forces in the Black Sea?

And if the carrier group now pootles off to China, do you think the Chinese will be emboldened or shaking in their boots by Bozza’s antics?

Three NATO warships on a NATO mission, which happens regularly

Russia are just pissing for Home consumption, they aren’t stupid and they know that attacking a NATO warship is an act of WAR against all the NATO members

It’s the classic case of “look at my balls, they’re bigger than your balls”

It is telling that the Russian warbirds were flying without missiles on the wings

No. We're not at war with Russia. We buy their gas.

I thought the Su24 dropped bombs ?

Bombs can be just as deadly. Most ships in The Falklands were damaged/ sunk by bombs (unexploded in some cases) rather than missiles, although Exocet was the much feared/ publicised weapon.

As the Salisbury perps had long since scarpered by the time the true nature of the deed was established, as I understand it, I’m not sure much other than diplomatic or economic sanction was really possible.

I like that the RN in concert with NATO allies is seemingly taking a firmer line with Russia, but also remember the Argentinian capacity for effective aggression was sadly underestimated, it seemed, in the Falklands.

I hope it’s not a game of political deflection but is genuinely intended to re-establish maritime rule of law, although the stakes look to me to need very y careful assessment.

You've not answered the question. You called him a coward for Salislbury, what do you think he should've done?
