Didn't he post a picture of himself in the cockpit of a fighter plane, while it was up in the sky?
No, just a copy of my commission in the RAF after he asked me to clarify my qualifications to criticise him.Red 4 said:
What did you do in the RAF ? I could post my nephew's stuff if you like. He's in ths RAF but knows next to Jack about planes.
You keep using the expertise of people who you live near, or are related to, as a counter to expertise of people in the conversation here, but that's not how expertise works. I lived two doors down from a bishop when I was in Blackheath, but couldn't credibly claim that that gave my views on transubstantiation any more weight than they would have had otherwise. This is coming across quite like "my dad used to drink with Lance Armstrong".

No, I'm not. Try to keep up. I have explained. If you don't want to accept the explanation that's fine but try to stop trotting out the same old nonsense, there's a good chap.
Yes, you've explained that your neighbour was someone in something and that because he discusses it with you that adds weight to your opinion.I don't agree with that viewpoint at all; as I've said even having worked on planes for the ministry of defence I'd not try to claim expertise in them, and this has to be about fifteen steps higher up the chain in terms of relevant expertise than what your cousin does or your neigbours.
If you aren't claiming that living next door to the bloke adds weight to your views then why on Earth did you bring him up?

Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again.

I'm not claiming expertise. That is the point you have missed all along. I'm not sure why you (and others) keep repeating this.I don't agree with that viewpoint at all; as I've said even having worked on planes for the ministry of defence I'd not try to claim expertise in them, and this has to be about fifteen steps higher up the chain in terms of relevant expertise than what your cousin does or your neigbours.

I think discussing things with someone who was skilled, trained, authorised and worked on combat aircraft for decades - and who has retained an extensive knowledge and interest in the field does add weight to my opinion.
Why do you think it doesn't ?

My next door neighbour spent 35 years in the military. He spent much of that time on carriers (as an officer). He doesn't think much of the latest incarnations.. I tend to think he knows what he is talking about.
That's the line that I was looking for! That's what I meant, you are using the views and expertise of your next-door neighbour to add weight to your own opinion. I'm not sure why you are now pretending that you weren't, it's hardly a major crime, just a bit funny.
And before you protest, I used to live next door to a woman with a doctorate in literary analysis, and she would definitely agree with my reading of that post.

He’s coming across like a bitter and twisted ex-plod.
Ah, so he's actually ex-police.If that's right I wonder if it was after getting turned down for the air force; it would explain things quite well.
I always wanted to fly fast jets. I had the academic skills, build, and drive, but sadly back then me needing glasses (or maybe it was based on the strength I needed, I can't remeber) ruled me right out.
It's part of the reason that I went to work at the RAE but it turns out that sitting in a shed doing CAD work is remarkably unlike flying, so I left.

Nothing like you spitting your dummy on here though, eh ? I'd be embarrassed with some of your outbursts on this forum.
Not sure why you're referring to authority/ the police. Glad I'm out. Never been happier. Sorry to disappoint.

But I’m fallible, and happy to admit I’m wrong.
Maybe he just lives next door to one.

I'll leave you to try some more mental gymnastics. Bye for now.
