Hi all,

Was out walking the dog & came across two tiny rodents (one dead) lying on the path. I couldn't just leave it there suffering so I have brought it home but not a clue what (if anything I can do). Any advice please?

It is very tiny & still has it's eyes closed.

I will try & upload a picture shortly but I don't think the poor thing will last long.

Thanks,
Ben

Situation resolved.

He (or she as I've now found out) is a Field Mouse. She survived the night despite me giving her watered down milk, not ideal apparently but hopefully I've not done too much damage.

She's now at a rescue centre & is going to be looked after there. I can ring in a couple of days for an update, which I blatently will (yes I'm that sad!)

Cheers,
Ben

Well done smile

I thought about suggesting a rescue centre, but to be honest I didn't think it would last long enough to get it there.

Please let us know what they say.

Thanks!

I'm going to call on Friday so I will update then.

The place we took it to (Vale Animal Hospital - Tewkesbury) said they'd had 4 other mice, & a Hedgehog, that morning already. At least it will have some friends if it makes it!

Cheers,
Ben

Quick update,

I phoned up the rescue centre, the Mouse is still going! One of the staff takes it home every night & things are looking good.

They said I can call again the end of next week. Felt slightly embarrassing ringing about a Mouse but the lady said most people ring for updates so I shall be doing the same!

Cheers,
Ben

My cats could have let you have as many as you wanted. Granted not as good a condition as that little chap.

Hope it does alright, and not released into a field with any buzzards!

laugh I'm starting to question my two Dogs as they're supposed to be Terriers but they found the Mouse & just stood there looking confused!

^ It wasn't running. Had it been on the move the hunting drive would have kicked in. Nice job OP :-)

Yes, I phoned up on Friday afternoon, I then wished I hadn't! It wasn't good news, it died early last week

A bit disappointing as I thought after it had got through the first couple of days it might be ok but no such luck. At least it had a slightly more comfortable end than on the path where I found it I suppose.

Cheers,
Ben

Found a baby vole on a footpath walking the dog last week.

Wasn't moving and was riddled with lice.

Took it to a rescue place but I think it was likely a bleak outcome.

Didn't have the heart to leave it.

Thanks, I tried my best, would have been nice for a happier ending.

Similar to me. I didn't have a clue what to do with it but couldn't just leave it either.

Hopefully 'yours' will have a better outcome than 'mine'!

How nice that there are such kind people like you. My wife and I recently rescued a sick cat, then we felt sorry for him and kept him. He has recovered and is very affectionate, we love him very much.
