It does happen. People with social anxiety sometimes overcompensate when they’re stressed.

Really!!?? I think of it as someone who likes their own company and thoughts, shy would also cover it , someone , who doesn’t want to be the centre of attention ,maybe not the leader type ??

Not really - the first bit perhaps.

Introversion/extraversion is basically about whether you get gratification from within or without. Introverts are 'deenergised' by public/social interactions and need time alone to 'recharge' while extroverts sag when alone and thrive off interaction.

Obviously that does often map to introverts being more solitary, reflective and cerebral and extroverts more gregarious, impulsive and talkative. But introversion is absolutely not the same thing as shyness (a fear of social encounters) and doesn't have anything to do with a desire for, or capability of leadership.
