Protesters blocking various M25 Junctions
Discussion
I spend my working life encouraging, where I can, better standards of air tightness and generally making a building a "better" environment, for itself, its inhabitants, and the wider environment.
If I was faced with this bunch of crusties blocking a road I don't think I would be very "polite" to them, however.

So who's organising/paying for this ste?
Smells a lot like someone who'll stand to benefit hiring in some useful idiots to AstroTurf their way to extra government 'green funding'/fraud. Looks like an absolutely textbook case of fake grassroots support. - seriously, who goes out campaigning for *house insulation*?!
The whole of XR is funded based on personal agendas and this seems like a particularly targeted offshoot.

I have zero sympathy for niche groups who choose to disrupt peoples' lives.
Plus the thick idiots can't seem to grasp that doing such actions alienates them from the very people they are hoping to change the minds of, i.e 'Joe Public'.I really don't understand why the Police seem to be just standing around looking at them, as if they are told to not do anything. I'm surprised that they didn't have the st kicked out of them by irate motorists and lorry drivers before Plod even arrived.
If a few drivers at the front of the queue went up to the protesters and told them they would sit in their cars, rev them up to 4 or 5 thousand revs and sit there pumping CO2 into the air until the road was cleared, and all that pollution could be prevented by them getting out of the road, do you think they might move?

This picture illustrates the point I was trying to make, above.Seriously - what on earth is wrong with this bloody place, that instead of preventing wilful obstruction the copper stands next to her, presumably to make sure the little darling doesn't get run over? No reason for this kid gloves approach whatsoever.
Since when does her right to protest trump the rest of the population's right to go about their lawful business? These people need removing when they pull stunts like this - dragged away by their hair if necessary; they put themselves in this position.
I do often wonder why the powers that be don't do anything about "this type of thing", be it crusties causing havoc blocking roads or changing the laws that allow caravan dwelling scamps pitching up on village greens; easily done, surely be a hit with the voter base, and yet they do nothing. I don't get it.
These groups clearly have good lawyers in their teams who advise them exactly what to say and what to do. I am assuming the police ultimately don't want to risk doing anything wrong so end up protecting the protestors for fear of getting into trouble.
Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 says that “if a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence”. The penalty for this offence is a fine and not imprisonment.
But they are clearly guilty of an offence, so why don't the police have the power to do anything? They were more than happy to arrest people during lockdown for walking with a friend on the beach, so how come they won't touch this with a bargepole?

Maybe a counter protest is required to drag people out of the way if the police aren't capable for whatever reason.Biggy Stardust said:

I had insulation added to my house for free under a scheme a few years ago. This was open to a lot of people. I don't know of the take up, but it doesn't feel like its the Government's fault... (for once).
I had free cavity wall insulation (I'm not on any kind of benefit). No, the government doesn't appear to be at fault.

The Met’ very recently broke up a sit in/ stand in protest being assembled by xr, took away their scaffold tower before it was erected and dragged the protesters off the road. Must be something within the Law that allowed those actions by police, so why is it not used on a regular basis.

And look at the protestors, they look more like middle class Guardian readers than crusties. The two on the train, especially the one with the pony tail got what they deserved.
