So it is a geographical issue? Nothing to do with Brexit?
A number of plants are shut down for various reasons and on different schedules. It's causing problems in both Europe and the UK, but the timings mean we're appearing to bear the brunt of it at the moment. If we were in the EU, there is no reason I can see for things to be different - the plants that are running are prioritising the customers who are easiest to reach and who're willing to pay - that's business, not Brexit.

If you really wanted to blame something, you could be asking why we decided to ban fracking - it would have given us a much more robust gas supply given the current world energy crisis, and help absorb the (start of the) fallout from the pandemic.

We have CO2 shortages on a regular basis

2018 was the last one (brexit obv)

Australia had one in 2010 (clearly brexit again)

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-01-06/orica-closu...

What we need to do is create more demand for explosives so we generate more CO2 as a by product……….

Perhaps we can start a war with France - that always works!!!!

In all the excitement and feverish remoaning it's not easy to recall how the vote went, not least as the result was lost in the noise from an instant year-long recession, in the consequent immediate emergency budget with tens of £billions of tax hikes and cuts, not forgetting the hundreds of thousands of jobs gone in a flash, plus recovering from WW3 and the end of western political civilisation.

Still, all those clever remainers ignored the tide of nonsense from politicians/campaigners/media. If only it was so obvious to others.

Back to the endless modern history reprise, which way did it go in the end?

"Badly, as predicted" is the answer you're looking for. But at least you're happy,

Quite surprised you don't have it printed off and on your wall at home smile (Or is that what you mean by "radar"?).

"Interesting" factoid...my EE phone contract was up for upgrade/renewal/cancellation this week. Renewed with them - guess what? No EU roaming charges. Go figure.

The yellowhammer report is pretty much now the current situation.

But to our resident gaslighters, apparently that's not "the Armageddon predicted lol"

Just a different one.

You have to wonder, with all the Burgandy Jag driving Gammons out there; what were they thinking?

I shall cherish my red / burgundy passport for a good few more years possibly 7 or 8. When the blue 1 comes, I will not shed a tear; just be happy it's easier to colour match and accessorise.

Might be worth reading your contract small print. No charges now, but will be from Jan 2022 for those who took out, upgraded or renewed their co tract after July 2021

But that's why Brexit happened. Not just the Eton educated ones.

We are trusting the very people (who through years and several parliaments) who got us into this somewhat messy situation, to get us out?

That deserves a WHAT!!!!!

I think we should trust corporates more, some are doing better than others. Jamie Dimon just gave us a new bank (OK, not because of Brexit OR in spite of); but because we have a different economic baseline.

Brexit undoubtedly caused friction issues for physical trade, but businesses continue to innovate and grow. The government's job is to allow, encourage but ultimately ensure that growth is shared out equally (something UK politicians had FA interest in pre-2016).

Trust corporates more? What was that cry? Oh yes "we've had enough of experts"

As for the government encouraging trade, it did a st job while in the EU. Ireland did more trade exports to China than the entire UK did.

We'll trade with the US and China they said! How's that going? Grandpa Joe says its not a priority. And then the UK does a nuclear sub partnership with Oz to put a "ring of steel" around China. That'll help.

What's the next great plan? Sell pork & beer to the middle east and beef to India? hehe

How's that G7 plan to tax trade in the country where it's generated going? And what's the UK's plan if that includes services?

At what point do you think my post was supporting UK governments....

Have you not figured it out yet?

Cause, effect and in this case resolution are entirely separate things.

There are many views on why Brexit, not all are the same or relevant.

Do you think it was genuinely Boris's fault that the only 2 options were Deal or No Deal? Or do you (perhaps) think someone else fked up and removed the correct / best result?

Follow up post...

Anyone who said "don't trust the experts" is also an idiot.

You mentioned tax (in the bit I didn't quote), but.... its exactly the "experts" that ensured that people with UK pensions didn't suffer the full global treaty rate on dividend tax. As an example. UCITs might be an easy out, but for years "experts" have ensured that headline treaty rates do not impact (as much as possible) the little guy.

It's entirely why corporates do a better job of this than government.

What should have been said is "don't trust the media hyperbole", but that's something else. Or slightly more accurate "the media are only reporting the stress case".

The impact is overhyped as firms are often doing their best to mitigate it. Already corporates (transport serving F1 to keep it PH relevent) have worked out how to cut friction costs on post Brexit shipping costs.

Commercial incentive works in our favour.
