Poo at Paul's - where in the country are you?

We've not had heating on for weeks, yet absolutely no need for ski socks or mega blankets.

Indeed, I'm sat in shorts and a t-shirt right now, and will likely have windows open most of the day to keep cool...
Yeah but you're in the posh area around Chi where it's always sunny. Come over to Gos Vegas where I am, it's bleak and cold like Escape from New York.

Obviously it’s for a judge to decide, I think it’s quite likely these offences do not meet the custodial threshold.
The threshold should be changed then.
There is surely a consideration for cumulative offences though? Recidivism, even on low level nuisance crimes can lead to higher penalties.
Criminal damage sentencing guidelines are available for all to see here: https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magi...
If we can get climate hysteria categorised as a Religion, its 14 years maximum sentence.
Wrong way round…you’d need say the *victim* was attacked because of their religion, not that the perpetrator’s religion said to do it
It was said in jest. Notwithstanding, for serial offenders of criminal damage over £5,000 (and we could add loss of earnings to that) there is scope for custodial sentences.

IMHO a suspended custodial would be sufficient for most.

A fat civil claim and injunctions barring them from going near various places would be more useful.

They might not care right now about the feeble reactions of the criminal system but there's more than one way to use lawyers to fk with people.

rofl at Gos Vegas!

And yes, Chi is pretty good for sun, although the flip is this time of year we don't get much in the way of 'insulating' cloud overnight.

If you ever do "Escape", you're welcome to a pint in the Gribble anytime chap.

Bugger. Now I know where I'm gonna have to go for lunch.

You've just cost me £30 you git!

Normally, a suspended sentence comes with conditions. Any repeat offence and you're spending time inside, which I don't think many of those snowflakes would cope with very well.

Agreed. I stuck mine on for an hour yesterday, but only heating the living room. I don't remember the last time the full heating was on. It was definitely weeks ago.

I’m in agreement here.
The aim is to stop them from offending again, and to deter others from doing the same.
Solve the short-term impulsive behaviour with suspended sentences (or clear direction that re-offending would merit a custodial sentence)
Solve the long-term incentive to join such groups with financial penalties (you WILL pay for your damage, and it’s economic cost to the owner, and a fine, no matter how long it takes)

Judge has to walk a fine line. Cannot risk appearing the kill protest or debate in a totalitarian manner, but neither can they allow minorities to effectively terrorise the general public and economy.

If the judge bangs up some of these saps and they get bummed to death by a lorry driver from Barnsley, they could be an outcry that is leveraged by these groups. A suspended sentence is a very real, very clear warning to cease and desist. It can even, in addition to having clauses regarding re-offence, ban individuals from certain places and locations.

If they subsequently want to ignore the leniency of a suspended sentence then I'd be more than happy for them to serve time. Any legal counsel is duty bound to advise them very clearly on the consequences.

yes My 'stat is set to call for heating at 9ºC, but the house hasn't fallen below 13ºC for months now. If anything I'm more worried about the repair bill for "silted up" pipes, valves and radiators come next winter than I am about the cost of heating my house...

...out of interest I looked at my 'Hive' just now and "target" temperature is 9ºC, but the actual temperature is 16.1ºC, even with the back door open and upstairs windows open "on the latch". Definitely shorts weather here in 'Sunny Bournemouth'... thumbup
