It was McGrath's shift a few weeks ago over at the BBC, where going bananas over climate change finally happened. An ex spurt has declared an imminent banana shortage and higher prices due to ManBearPig.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-685...

However, data from the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation via Our World in Data shows a significant rise in banana production over recent decades, as aerial fertiliser (CO2) levels have risen, with no discernible adverse impact from rises in extreme weather (not happening as claimed) either.

Top banana from the beeb.

Apparently climate change must be factored into rebuilding Key Bridge: how does this bridge withstand climate change? See 'The Baltimore Sun', then hope they see the light and recognise climate politics as relating to a busted flush not a busted bridge.

What's needed in bridge (re)building and elsewhere is credibility not hilarity, rational discourse not emotional incontinence. Figuratively speaking...

So from your considered position it is not even worth considering the climate when constructing a bridge?

Modelling the different extremes in temperature, sea levels, wind speeds is completely irrelevant in constructing a bridge?

If the climate is likely to continue it's upward trajectory (or maybe another mini ice age by 2030??) then is 8t not worth considering?
The previous bridge was 56m above MSL in the channel, average sea level rise is 3.4mm/yr. I think that is a pretty comfortable margin. Honestly, sea level rise can only help, as the largest ships apparently only have 12-18" between the keel and the bottom of the channel.

You were the one who brought up climate change and sea level in the context of building a bridge. It was a fairly assinine post, so I gave it an assinine response. Temperature? Sea Level? Wind speed?? How much is climate change affecting wind speed in the mid-Atlantic region?? As if engineers aren't already taking all those things into consideration, and far more, while designing a bridge. The fact that they felt it even needed to be mentioned is ridiculous.

For example, what materials and size would you design the footings from given the potential of a rising sea level and a mini ice age? If the sun gets stronger (or weaker) what impact might that have on the steel girders or ropes used?

Would a mini ice age with greater compressive forces make a difference? Should the climate be ignored?

Just make it tall enough from wood?

The original assertion from TB was to ignore potential impacts or they should be laughed at. My take would be not to do that....

Why are you comparing an article in 2024 to a report in 2022? What has happened in the last two years which may have impacted disease?

Just corrected some of the undermining too. Not very gracious....

More on the euseless eu as a climate plan ho ho ho is shelved with farmers protesting across Europe

The Daily Telegraph, 27 March 2024

Isle of Wight families are struggling alongside high and increasing heating bills in eco-friendly ho-ho-ho-homes
On the Wight, 27 March 2024

How China got its claws into the West’s net zero transition
The Daily Telegraph, 27 March 2024

Joe Biden’s climate plan is a threat to democracy
UnHerd, 25 March 2024

Reasons: ESG Investing may not recover
The Wall Street Journal, 24 March 2024

ESG by any other name would smell just as bad
Forbes, 27 March 2024

China is missing key climate targets
(while laughing at the west and not zero as above, ho ho ho)
Institute for Energy Research, March 2024

There's nothing quite like laughing in the face of hollow climate politics muppetry based on a noble lie. Where's Brian Rix when he's really needed to manage a farce.

Stop misrepresenting Hulme.....it is tiresome.

Foolish unprepared beeb greenblobber, annihilated within the baseless pretext of their own CO2 non-crisis climatewang politics, embarrassed in their own backyard, excellent. Any other approach would have been less effective, the interviewee had to deal with the dung that was flung, and he did so extremely well. Turning the Big Oil type nonsense back on its creators / users was delicious - who exactly are the beeb's climate evangelists in hock to?

Written in the style of a school boy. Well done in your maturity.

Yep, the Guyanan president was perhaps correct about net zero. Which you still fail to acknowledge is a good target to achieve.

Now what about the banana reports and articles which you constantly divert from?

Or the bridge report?

Or Hulme

Or McTricky and Christy 2018?

Why will you keep broadcasting and not engage?

Is it because the position you have taken is undefendable?

Scared to engage on any of these subjects you keep rolling out?

If pointing out obvious errors in hypotheses is my greatest crime.....I am happy with that smile

The fact I do not have the time or inclination to give a retort on every post is up to me. I am sure given time, I could easily tear them apart.

Care to comment on my critique of McTricky and Christy 2018? I see nothing in reply which supports the oft quoted findings in the paper.

I don't believe I am giving personal digs by replying and engaging with posters. The only digs are the complete non committal to what posters are posting when I have replied to them....

Essentially by ignoring my posts I am assured I am right in my posting. Hence, I will keep digging.

Incidentally, why is TB not on the science thread anymore??

The coast is a great place to see changing weather in action and where a few bob is being spent on keeping the sea out. All being well I'll be berthed in Bembridge Harbour in a month or so.

Are they due to global boiling Mike? I can see you too from where we live a little east of Nomme de Plume. We’re about 150 metres from the shore, and maybe 30ft above MHWS. So we’re selling up, just in case the sea level rises faster than the current guesstimate from The Royal Society of 0.14 inches per year. Looks like it might take 214 years to break over the top but then maybe another 200 years to reach my front door. Maybe we are being hasty? The oceans are boiling though according to Al Gore. And we have entered the period of global boiling. So one cannot be too careful.

I love anecdotal ‘evidence’ of a changing climate based on nothing more than hearsay over a few years. It’s almost like a climate ‘scientist’ selected one single tree and based his whole career on it. It’d never happen. Panic!!!!!

Touchy. Just warning that some of the coastal paths are shut if visiting shortly. Nothing to do with sea levels, just the normal rain.

Thought this was good political news though
