I think they are serious. In denier-world, the 97 year old David Attenborough is lying on his TV shows to protect his long term career prospects. laugh
Could be that he doesn't want his legacy to be one of climate change denier.

Especially if it turns out that was the wrong side of the argument to be on.

Hemsby: How many other communities are at risk of erosion?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-6494...

Coastal erosion claimed three homes in Hemsby last weekend and a further two properties in the village are deemed at serious risk. Are there other Hemsbys along the coast and what can be done to protect the communities which live there?
The East Anglian coastline is no stranger to coastal erosion.
During he 13th and 14th centuries the sea reclaimed much of Dunwich in Suffolk, once the 10th largest town in England.............continues

Having shown this has been happening for 10 centuries, why is it in the CC room?
The terrace of cottages at Birling Gap in East Sussex has been getting shorter for some decades.

Cyclone Gabrielle: The New Zealand flood victims too scared to go home

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-64940342

Last month, Cyclone Gabrielle smashed into New Zealand's North Island - killing 11 people and displacing at least 10,000 more. It's triggered a national debate about climate change and whether vulnerable homes should be rebuilt or written off........New Zealand's climate change minister, James Shaw, attributed the scale of the disaster to climate change, exacerbated by global temperature increases. "There will be people who say it's too soon to talk about these things… but we are standing in it right now. This is a climate change-related event," he said in a speech to parliament last month.................continues

We have brainwashed people into believing weather variations are due to climate change, so we now have a self-inflicted scenario. Brilliant.

We're OK, our government is going to send alerts to our mobiles in case of weather. We should be told, and will be, when weather is forecast.

Clearly the results of weather, as above, can be bad for individuals, homes and businesses. Good job then that data shows extreme weather is not increasing and that deaths and losses due to extreme weather have decreased substantially over the decades.

There is an ongoing debate in NZ that prior history of flooding over the past 150 years is ignored, that the most recent flooding is unexceptional, and that people have built on land where 100 years ago recommendations were made to avoid doing precisely that.

But no, even in the case where the flooding was less than previously experienced, climate change contributed.

Data:
global deaths per year from extreme weather (droughts, floods, storms/hurricanes, extreme cold and heatwaves, wildfires) 1900 to 1989 = 216,819
global deaths per year from extreme weather (droughts, floods, storms/hurricanes, extreme cold and heatwaves, wildfires) 1990 to 2010 = 34,330

Source:
OFDA/CRED International Disaster Database, Université de Louvain, Brussels.

Conclusion: weather is getting safer
Using 2001–10 data, extreme weather events are responsible for 0.07% of all global deaths.
Despite the intense and increasing media attention to weather events, extreme weather events have a relatively minor impact on global public health.
Long-term (1900–2010) cumulative data show that death rates from extreme weather events declined by 98% overall across the time interval
This decline occurred despite a large increase in the populations at risk and more complete coverage of extreme weather events over that time period.

Assuming all wildfires are weather related - not so.

The opening caption states "you do not need to take any action" but the reporter says otherwise..........

'No opt out (for the test) and your phone is blocked if not responded to' which is nice rolleyes

Conspiracy theories aside the fact it has to be responded to is a perfect storm for scammers!

Following data and source on extreme weather impacts as posted, this (below) links to a Prof Roger Pielke Jr review of IPCC data on the actual weather events.

Prof Pielke said:
These conclusions of the IPCC, and presented in the language of the IPCC below, indicate that it is simply incorrect to claim that on climate time scales the frequency or intensity of extreme weather and climate events has increased ... Surprised?
https://rogerpielkejr.substack.com/p/how-to-understand-the-new-ipcc-report-1e3

This doesn't refer to the very latest IPCC emissions which I suspect (a shilling on the side says so) the BBC and Guardian are all over atm.

8 years in the making, iirc, and it's same old.

It explains the last month of totally OTT climatewang from the BBC, website and R4 which I got to enjoy on some car sharing (late shift and early shift).
Softening up job, setting the scene, etc. Only another month of drivel to go, approx.

According to a news feed, the BBC website is describing it as a survival guide to avert disaster.

I just scan read the executive summary: no flying, no shipping, no beef/lamb & no construction due to emissions from cement production, etc. They really think this is achievable?

Didn't they say it's THE final warning? Would that be THE final, or just 'the' final, or are we talking THE absolutely, definitively, FINAL warning? Or was that THE final warning until the next final warning comes? Didn't dumbo (our King) say in 2009 there's only 96 months to save the planet?

I love the brazen-faced UN Chief BS artist suggesting that the world can limit warming to 1.5 degrees. laugh They don't even know how much is natural variation, which will of course continue to do what it will unabated, regardless of the worldwide cabal of eejits fantasising about controlling the Earth's climate like a signalman pulling levers in a signal box. They all need to read Ovid's Metamorphoses. Especially the pages about Daedalus and Icarus.
