I would have thought that centuries of breeding plays a part. If a dog has been bred to fight, for example, this might have a slight bearing on its inherent nature. A bit like some dogs like going down holes, they're not trained to do it, it's in their DNA.
Don't say that. The mantra is "no bad dogs, just bad owners". Your theory means some dogs are just s, regardless of their owners. Of course, it's often true that dogs that have ishness bred into them over generations are the very dogs that are bought by people that haven't got the brains to own a tin of tuna, let alone a dog.
I guess it's why some breeds are classed as 'dangerous'. There are breeds that have a hair trigger when it comes to aggression and shouldn't be around children. If you breed a dog for centuries to exhibit certain characteristics such as bear baiting, bull baiting etc, then caution would be advised. "Fang wouldn't hurt a fly" sounds a bit thin when applied to some bone-crushing mastiff.

Yep. At the end of the day though, does it matter when the threat is real - big dog can do significant damage, little dog can get booted away easily enough.
Not always.

A tibetan mastiff?

For anyone saying the breed is irrelevant, I know which dog I'd have a punchers chance against.

Not sure anyone is saying breed is irrelevant in that context, more that a staffy isn’t particularly more likely to try and eat you than a JRT or Lab.

There was a tongue-in-cheek post on the gun thread.

If people are the problem and not guns...

Do you want the problem to have a gun?

I tend to take a similar with dogs. Big powerful dogs require specialist looking after and shouldn't be available to folks who have no idea of welfare and training.

Not sure where that info is from. It's a cane corso by all accounts.

Some friends of ours have two. One of them is utterly terrifying and I am pretty good with most dogs. They've just had a child too......I hope they don't add to the statistics.

Elsewhere the deluded woman said
"She added that Mr Jones was the only other person who could handle her dogs, aside from her husband Josh who was in London at the time of the incident."

I think this says a hell of a lot myself

As I type I have an AK-47 leaning against the wall inside the closet.
It just sits there, doesn't do anything because it's an inanimate object.
A dog can, and will attack for no reason, and I have both the physical and mental scars from such an attack.

There's a reason why the US has so many deaths. It's not due to dogs!

No, it's due to cars.

Yeah you got it!

Ah, hang on, that might not be quite what he meant!

Amazingly, twice as many people die from poisoning than in car accidents or guns. Bonkers.
