I would have thought that centuries of breeding plays a part. If a dog has been bred to fight, for example, this might have a slight bearing on its inherent nature. A bit like some dogs like going down holes, they're not trained to do it, it's in their DNA.
Don't say that. The mantra is "no bad dogs, just bad owners". Your theory means some dogs are just s, regardless of their owners. Of course, it's often true that dogs that have ishness bred into them over generations are the very dogs that are bought by people that haven't got the brains to own a tin of tuna, let alone a dog. bmwmike said:
Yep. At the end of the day though, does it matter when the threat is real - big dog can do significant damage, little dog can get booted away easily enough.

There was a tongue-in-cheek post on the gun thread.
If people are the problem and not guns...
Do you want the problem to have a gun?
I tend to take a similar with dogs. Big powerful dogs require specialist looking after and shouldn't be available to folks who have no idea of welfare and training.

Dog reported to be a Tibetan Mastiff with previous attacks noted.
Not sure where that info is from. It's a cane corso by all accounts.https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-...
Some friends of ours have two. One of them is utterly terrifying and I am pretty good with most dogs. They've just had a child too......I hope they don't add to the statistics.

"She added that Mr Jones was the only other person who could handle her dogs, aside from her husband Josh who was in London at the time of the incident."
I think this says a hell of a lot myself

It just sits there, doesn't do anything because it's an inanimate object.
A dog can, and will attack for no reason, and I have both the physical and mental scars from such an attack.

There's a reason why the US has so many deaths. It's not due to dogs!
No, it's due to cars."Road traffic crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States for people aged 1–54,and they are the leading cause of nonnatural death for U.S. citizens residing or traveling abroad."

Ah, hang on, that might not be quite what he meant!
Amazingly, twice as many people die from poisoning than in car accidents or guns. Bonkers.
