Gove has always been a very weird bloke.
Weird is not a word I would use - more like slimy and creepy. Wouldn’t mind if he was vaguely competent but that clip was unreal.

Christ almighty, can these people actually be any less self-aware? Sneery little tt needs to try living on benefits for a while, the rest of his life ideally.
Where is the full interview and what are those comments in relation to?

The only time I've ever heard "emergency budget" be used front and centre was boy George around 6yrs ago. Was Gove giving an example of things being manipulated? Or was he genuinely sneering at people struggling with costs?
I think it's called making a complete arse of yourself on national TV.

Yup, it seems that tribalism overrides everything. With our political system pretty much forcing and all or nothing outcome, people want their chosen "team" to win at all costs. What we are left with is this dated cringefest of tosspots.
The episode of "Yes Prime Minister" on TV last night pretty much summed that up. Sadly they didnt use the phrase that I am going to pinch " dated cringefest of tosspots."
The episode was called "Power to the People" and hits the nail squarely on the head. It's well worth a watch.

I know it's often a bit silly to assume anyone acting a bit odd is high on something but he really did look like he'd misjudged his 'liven up for morning telly' dose a bit.

My son was showing me it today. The comments are hilarious

Targeting that user group seems like it’s a tough crowd.

The HoC is set up that way. There are lines drawn on the floor so that sword carrying opposing members couldn't hurt each other. It's set up for argument, not debate. PMQs being the biggest part of the whole panto, and our two latest protagonists take their roles very seriously.

As things currently stand, maybe the simplest change would be to move the two lines closer together!

Surely you can see he's off his tits.
Dan Walker? No chance. biggrin

(As for Gove, I just saw Gove. Isn't he always pretty much like that - albeit not always trying to be funny. Maybe he though DW was a yoof and hence needed to adapt?).

I heard the whole interview as it happened and was amused that Gove answered several of the questions with a single word yes or no. It totally took Dan off his stride.
The problem is both sides just see it as a game and play for points, how far our democracy has fallen.

They're playing an interview he did with Nick Ferrari from LBC yesterday.

He's babbling on about 50 gigawatts of renewable energy but when he's asked what they're going to do to help pensioners spending the day in the library to keep warm he's got absolutely nothing.

The emperor is naked.

Do tell, what is the correct answer to that question?

Yes it will be fun. They way it has been sold is like behind the scenes.

Well anyone with a half a brain would at least have repeated the party line about the £200 'loan' or whatever other meaningless thing they currently have to 'help'. A proper answer would involve an actual policy (trimming VAT, green levies or whatever).

The answer definitely isn't to babble on with statistics about renewables.

How he got parachuted into a safe seat and his career ever since makes no sense to me. For a crappy journo turned crappier politician he seems to have done very well financially and career wise. No one seems to like him, he's a disaster in every job, and he trapples & back stabs all his colleagues yet on he sails.

You can see how Boris pulls off his act and keeps going but Gove is just a mystery.

Just listened to Marcus Fysh (yes, I'd never heard of him either) on this week's Chopper's Politics podcast, giving a damming indictment of the complacency of the incumbent leadership team and failing to offer any support to Johnson.

What was interesting about this, as being a Tory MP who doesn't support Johnson as a Tory MP isn't necessarily that uncommon (just perhaps not often verbalised), was the depth of his economic understanding.

Perhaps there is some hope that the generation behind Johnson might actually know what they are doing and could offer a viable alternative? Another I'd place in that camp is Kemi Badenoch.

Despite that, it seems that the UK might be heading to its own "lost decade" and look what that did to Japan...

Gentlemanly sword fight across the house, or all in street brawl? If the former, JRM is probably well versed, as I assume duelling formed a key part of his education.

I believe it is generally now referred to as “lost decades”? I’d say we have been in the same position at Japan for over a decade already. Crony capitalism is going to eat our economy if something isn’t done.
