Watching Nadhim twist and turn and avoid the question is excruciating.
Didn't see the interview but I actually quite rated Zahawi when he was on the vaccine rollout.

Now I see him in interviews and he's just another one who's been forced to set fire to any shred of dignity he might have once had to add balance defend Johnson.

Sad seeing it really as he's one of the few you'd like to see doing something in Government v just being wheeled out to defend the indefensible.
At least it’s his job and he’s getting paid for it. Murph and co do it for nothing. laughwink

Next conservative leader betting odds have changed a bit since last time I looked. . . Sunak’s dropped down the batting order. Truss still popular with bookies though. Surprised Hunt’s consistently so high, thought he’d burned his bridges a while ago, maybe he’s managed to avoid being too close to bojo?

I’d probably be happy with any of them replacing Boris, except Gove. Can’t see Raab getting a go, think he’s might be collateral damage when Boris (eventually) goes.
Zahawi has always struck me as being far from the sharpest knife in the draw.

But you pair are easily swayed by a well fitting suit and a poll. As long as they say something you agree with.

It's the "obligated" part that beats me Welsh.

People on here seem so wed to their team that they find themselves defending some proper messed up stuff just because their lot did it.

I'll never get my head round that.
What a load of utter nonsense.

Explain to me how I'm obligated to do anything on a car forum, you plum.

I post what I do because I believe it (unless I'm asking a question. Which usually implies I don't know).

You mistake people not agreeing with your position as being obligated to "something else". Which from experience is around Yr1 debating prowess.

You also mistake differing opinions as being inferior to your own. Which at best is arrogance.

Get your Kleenex ready though BS, as I suspect you're going to need lots of them over the coming weeks.

Fair enough you post what you do defending lying deceitful behaviour because you believe it.

My bad.

Aye, whatever you say Mr White Knight who wouldn't be able to describe context if his life depended on it.

Keep knocking yourself out about party gate. Gives you something to do each morning.

That's a pretty good argument. You explain the circumstances, you give various options, you show the faults with most, and then show us what, in your opinion, is the best. You then further refine you argument.

That's just what we need on forums.

It was embarrassing. Cringeworthy. I felt for the bloke despite knowing that all he had to do was refuse the whips' biddings.

As you say, he has handled himself well in recent times. Quite impressive. But he's sold his soul to the whips. The worst has been Kwarteng in the aspect of seeming to be reasonable, quiet, refined and modest. Now we find he has a lot to be modest about. Rent support again. Wallace was up there as one of the best pretenders, not that that says much. I've probably missed him defending Johnson's actions with a twist of logic to defy belief.

If he hasn't, as my choice he's bound to defect to the dark said. So just Dorries left.

As much as I agree on the cringe and how pathetic he was, it's his job. Trying to do him a favour he's between a rock and a hard place. Others have said it better than me on this thread but I've come to accept their point that if you're on the ministerial team and you're going out to speak for the government you have no choice but to defend the government's actions. Personal thoughts are not for public appearances.

It says a lot about the state of the current government that often they're not out to defend policy, they're out to defend Boris' actions. I'll not belabour the point as I've made it many times, going out to bat for Boris will at some point mean lowering your standards unless you had none in the first place. You'll be reputationally damaged, he'll laugh it off.

Not sure I agree on "all he had to do" regarding the whips. That would imply being prepared to take the executive on by supporting himself or someone else, or being prepared to lose his position.

Font page of the Mail attacking Sue Gray

Saying she's "playing politics" and the meeting was her idea.

Yeah right.

Nobody forces you to read particular posts, Derek.

Just as I ignore your page long diatribes on how good PMQs is, and how masterful Starmer has been, you are free to ignore mine whenever you like. It's a free world, and not everything has to boil down to erudite debate (which is seriously fortunate on NP&E most of the time).

He has always been just another yes man. Promoted above his abilities because he will always defend Johnson come what may.

Mind you, he knows a thing or to about energy bills, having previously claimed the electricity costs for heating the stables in his second home, on MPs expenses.

When he was doing the vaccine rollout I thought he was excellent.

On top of his brief and really good communications.

Now reduced to this.

Pretty pathetic performance, and today number 10 have admitted the idea for the meeting came from them, just a bunch of liars.

The Met investigation looks increasingly smelly

I also see No10 have now confirmed that they did ask to meet Sue Grey, despite denying it last week. What a total shower of incompetent halfwits.

and this has now emerged: a bit more misleading the public

Boris Johnson has been urged by a Commons committee to issue 11 corrections relating to occasions when he falsely claimed employment is higher now than it was before the pandemic.
