Thanks for that, good article. I do feel he was betwixt those well known foes, the devil and the deep blue sea, or a rock and a hard place when it came to lockdowns but the point of the article remains valid. Good read. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/boris-johnsons...

There was selective quoting . . . but not by me . . . if you look back at the nested posts you will see that he selectively (snipped) my previous post and didn’t provide any indication that he had done so. Hypocrisy and poor forum etiquette rolled into one as well as given to irrational hyperbole.
He only did it once while calling you out, so that's OK Electro1980 said:

I like how people like you think someone showing poor judgement once and recognising and apologising for it is somehow worse than someone showing a pattern of poor judgement and blatant disregard for the rules they set and then lying to the public about it.
It is bizarre.Boris has multiple parties, regular piss-ups, lots of people, including him, fined, suitcases full of wine, tables of spirits and snack, says in parliament it was all fine and legal - “it’s all fluff! He did nothing wrong! You’re all over reacting! It’s just cake!”
Ellwood attends one event, that was completely legal and apologises after seeing that whilst legal wasn’t the best look - “HANG HIM!!!”.
I thought it was a party political tribal thing, but it’s not. It’s just about Boris. It’s insane.
But keep going. It makes you look morally superior. Or something.

I'm referring to the selective quoting of his own post, not mine. If you are serious about your self-proclaimed role of PH thread arbiter you really need to think a bit more.
Another error of understanding on your part. Are you joining in with the other weiners who think I'm trying to "cancel" them? Who clearly cannot stand, let alone understand, a counter viewpoint?
I get the impression some of you were bullied at school and still think the world's out to get you. Grow. Up.

It would, perhaps, have been weightier if Allegra Stratton hadn't been mentioned in it... Just adds a soupcon of bitterness....

If you’re going to struggle with the basics of language I can’t be responsible for that. It’s not difficult to look morally superior to people who are desperately tying themselves in knots to defend a lying, cheating narcissist who wouldn’t piss on them if their hair was on fire. But keep going. It makes you look morally superior. Or something.

It ain't me who has a problem with language and comprehension my pedigree chum.

All while clearly not believing a word of it himself.
I guess a lot of people think that's OK, but I'm not one of them.

Britains standing in the world is diminished under this bunch of clowns
See, a perfect example of over-playing your hand.Britain's standing is diminished in your head, but in the real word leaving the EU and sticking up for Ukraine has improved our standing in the bit of the world that isn't France. We even nearly won Eurovision FFS.
Plenty of things you could have said that weren't platitudinous unevidenced bullst, but you went with that because?

That's a good article in my opinion, not least because it highlights the folly of regulations which attempted to micro manage people's lives, backed by the force of law.https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/boris-johnsons...
If someone had said to me a while ago that an elected UK government would enact legislation telling me who I could, or could not see in my own home I'd have thought you were mad. But they did. More than once.
For that government to have ignored those laws is bad, really bad. But the bigger crime in my opinion isn't the hypocrisy shown by Boris and Co (and, let's not forget, Dominic Cummings, an SNP MP, Neil Ferguson, and allegedly Keir Starmer), because I half expect that. If we're honest, we knew Boris was a Man Of No Principles when we elected him.
No, the bigger crime is the stupid, pointless and petty lockdown laws that Boris & Co. blithely introduced in the first place. They are one reason why I cannot vote for this government again. Cake and Number Ten shenanigans? Meh.

Totally agree. As a conservative voter all my life they will never again get my vote whilst Johnson is in the cabinet. I spoilt my local vote recently as the only other choice was LD or Labour. More than once.

They're the first two that spring to mind. I guess you'd need to be in the foreign office to see what impact this has if / when we criticise others for breaking international law or ripping up deals that they've just signed in the future.I guess that your view is that doing these things enhances our reputation. Maybe it does in some countries.
Maybe you're also right that the gravitas of intellectual lightweights like Priti Patel, Grant Shapps and Nadine Dories are commanding respect and admiration abroad. Can't see it myself, but I'm out of touch these days in expecting a degree of basic competence in government

It clearly isn't about Conservativism.
I've said before it's cultish behaviour
That’s not how you spell it I've said before it's cultish behaviour
It genuinely is cultish behaviour.
It isn't about Conservative values or conserving anything it's a cult of personality around one man.
People mocked Corbynism but I don't see this as any different.
